buying a car
i'm getting ready to buy a car and found this. what do you think? should i look for cars on ebay at all?
|
i hate the ground kit on that car, but ebay can be fine to buy stuff on - that person seems to have a good rating, so I don't think you have to worry at all about being stiffed.
|
I found a couple of worthy Lamborghinis on eBay but had problems getting financing for some reason:confused:
Actually found a decent Camino but didn't feel like flying 2,000 miles to check it out in person. |
Are you near to the area?
You need to check the car before buying it! |
i live in north carolina, and as i understand from the licence plate he's from florida. about 13-15 hours driving but the action ends in 1 day :(

I got to go with anubis here, the body kit on that car is ugly, and poorly put on and/or manufactured. notice the massive gap between the top of the front spoiler and the hood, and the crappy tinting job(clearly seen in the 8th and 9th photos from the top), those bubbles are going to interfere with your ability to see anything behind you, and with that car, there would be plenty of cars able to fill the rear window pretty quick. and its an automatic, automatics suck bigtime.
[EDIT] one more thing, front-wheel dirve takes all the fun out of driving. rear-wheel drive is far more fun[EDIT] |
only if you actually have weight in the rear. 2WD truck unloaded in the rain == not fun sometimes
|
what can I say, my cars got near 50/50 weight distribution, so it's quite controllable in slides.
|
I can control it in slides and whatnot just fine--- it's all a matter of acceleration, or lack of it.

There are almost no cars worth buying between $500-$20,000. If you can buy a car for less than $500 and safely drive it home you got a winner. Other than getting a steal/special deal from someone you know, you probably won’t find a car worth buying for less than $20,000. I don’t know of any new vehicles worth buying for less than that, once you figure in tax, license, stereo, and maybe wheels/tires. And if you are looking for a classic you have to expect to pony up at least that much for anything you expect to be even remotely dependable, if you can get one for less you will probably end up putting enough cash into it making it safe and reliable that you will spend that much by the time your through. Even if you can do the work yourself your time is still worth something. Remember, if you are looking at used cars you are looking at a car someone else no longer wanted, and there is usually a reason for that. If a person is happy/satisfied with their car it usually isn’t for sale.

I beg to differ!
You can easily obtain a classic musclecar, fully dependable for $5,000 and up. |
I beg to differ as well, there are a shitload of highly dependable and desirable BMW's, including alot of M3's that are between $500-$20,000
|
Well, u in US are very LUCKY man ... a car like this in Brasil its almost something like 20 ou 30,000 reais ... aheuhuaeahehae
it sukcz ... but as our friend was saying ... BMW Rulez !!! but honda civic is a nice car ... its worth buying ... and really, rear wheel driving is MUCH MORE interesting ... :D |
as an example, I counted up some of the BMW's for sale in the back of this months Roundel(the BMW Car Club of America magizine), this is for cars built between 1984 and 1998 costing less than $20,000:
38 3-series, including 15 M3's 18 5-series, including 4 M5's 16 6-series, including 7 M6's 6 7-series 1 Z3. now I ask you, what is wrong with these. they have all been maintained by BMW enthusists, wich means that 80-90% of them are in perfect shape(after you take into account their age) |
well, i'm poor, so i'm looking for a max of $6000, most likely used. it's gonna be honda cause many people advised it to me, it's going to last longer, and i like civic models. if anyone can recommend me something i'd appreciate it. to narrow it down i'm looking for: '97-'04, mileage <40000, automatic.
|
Damn...wish I had 6000 to spend on a car.
|
You can get a 95 civic in fairly good condition for less than 3k. Look up some numbers in the blue book before commiting.

I bought a brand new car for ten grand and it's got a 10 year warranty and it runs great. I bought a car for 700 dollars that lasted me three years. It was an 87 subaru and I had to put one grand into it. That's three years on a shitmobile with three quadrillion miles on it for 1,700. And the front end on that civic is shit. If you buy that thing. Take that fucking thing off. Car would prolly be faster without it, since it's like four pounds of extra (insert material here) anyway. Better yet, get him to take it off for you. |
If you dare take another consideration into buying a riced-Civic like that, and I will personally stalk you, take the generic fart-can muffler off the car, and shove it nice and tight up your ass!
What can I say? Stuff like that fits naturally there... ;) :D :p |
lol @ Shenlong. :D
And you probably don't want me to recommend cars... but I will say that my dad's '96 Geo Metro is fucking bullet-proof. Bought it brand new back in '96 for less than $10,000 total, and it still runs great. Also, my sister has a '00 Chevy Cavalier. It's had a few minor problems, but it's had absolutely no problems with drivability whatsoever. She bought that car brand new back in '00 for about 10 grand also, and it's been running strong since. And finally, my truck. As I'm sure you all know, I've got a '95 Chevy S10 SS. Bought it used back in '00 for about 8 grand. I've had minor problems with it, but nothing to do with drivability. I had a u-joint in the drive shaft go out one time, but it didn't leave me stranded. It still got me home, even though all the roller bearings in the joint were nothing but dust. I've done nothing to it other than normal maintenance (changed the spark plugs once, new set of tires, new brakes on the front, replaced the fan belt, change the oil when it needs it, etc). For as much shit as I put this truck through, it's never let me down. Still running strong. |
