giftmas

yep, its that time of the year. we set the tree up(fake one) just before thanksgiving and i tear the sucker down the day after christmas.

when do you guys put your tree up? and what was the weirdest thing on your tree last year?

mine was strung cranberrys and popcorn. ok.. we had a hot summer and yet a warm winter.. OMG the fruit flies that gathered around my tree! and then the cats decided popcorn wasent that bad. the cats loved it so much that the tree fell over a dozen times and finally two days before christmas.. the tree was torn down.

[insert chevy joke about getting his tree up]

=)

We've got a 2-foot tall silver tree what gets put up on the sideboard. That's it. It comes out about a week or two before Hézeus' birthday.

pixiefied 10th November 2003 05:29

huh?

Nat_roy 10th November 2003 06:29

Hézeus' being Jesus said in Spanish, I believe. Our tree usually goes up at the beggining of December. Nothing really wierd on it, but we do carry the theme throughout the house, with assorted ornaments and such. It really does look beautiful when the fire is going, the candles are lit, and the snow is coming down nice and thick through our front window :). Then the tree usually comes down a week or two after Christmas.

apollos 10th November 2003 07:10

Apparently here it is bad luck to shove it up before the 12th December *shrug* I don't believe in the nativaty story anyway, Jebus existing probably, for people to have so many orgasms about a man, but I will just see Christmas as a time to consider my friends I love so much.

missyob 10th November 2003 11:04

I put up the tree at various times. We dont really have a tradition. The best thing about christmas for me is seeing the kids all excited.

I consider it more of a stocking stuffer than a tree;)

Raz 10th November 2003 14:00

I miss the excitement of christmas growing up, every year now we put up just a tree for about a week.

Cylob 10th November 2003 15:07

I put my tree up yesterday. It took 2 and a half hours, but it was worth it! I'll have to post a picture of it.... How about a 'who's got the best tree' contest???

BullGawD 10th November 2003 15:21

Yesterday? Wow.

As a kid, I found if funny to let the cat in the house, 'coz until I was a teenager, we always got a live tree. What with a train, and sparkling lights, and shiny ornaments, it was a regular kitty campground.

Don't find the idea quite so amusing now that I'm getting older, and have my own house and tree.

Wait. Yes I do. :D

psyfive 10th November 2003 16:16

we usually put the tree up a day or two after thanksgiving.

weirdest thing in the tree last year: ummm, I cant remember.

ShyShy 10th November 2003 19:03

My family puts the tree up the weekend after Thanksgiving, and my mom's the one to decorate it. She does an awesome job. The trees that you see in department stores have nothing on my mom's work. She does most of the decorations herself. Last year, the theme was "children", meaning she would use X-mas themed toys to put on the tree, came out pretty cool. We take the tree down usually the weekend after the rugrat's birthday.

This year will be pretty quiet though, we're not going to decorate much.

Bilbo Baggins 10th November 2003 22:09

I shall be putting my lights up just after my birthday (December 10th, all gifts / cards welcome).

cyu 10th November 2003 22:22

Nothing too exciting about my tree. We usually put it up around Thanksgiving break and take it down on new years.

Bilbo: Beware of gifts that tick.

EnDurA 11th November 2003 05:01

up perhaps a week before christmas, down when we can be bothered to take it down.

nothing too weird on our tree, perhaps the odd piece of art from when I was in pre-school.

DragonSon 11th November 2003 05:17

We get our tree (live) about a week or two into December and we keep it up for a few weeks afterward.

The weirdest thing my family has ever put on the tree would have to be my Grandmother. She and my aunt started a tradition a few years back that they would hide a PICKLE ornament in the tree, and whoever finds it gets a prize, which is a little box of chocolates. I've yet to win..:(

You whore.

ShyShy 11th November 2003 05:34

Thanks :D

DragonSon 11th November 2003 05:35

:D Loves ya babe!

Trigear 11th November 2003 06:02

i'm the only one tall enough to take the christmas lights down off the porch. i haven't been home much in the past 11 months. my mom doesn't have to worry about decorating this year. ;)

CarboHidrat 11th November 2003 06:07

I will set my giftmas 2 days before christmas.

ElChevelle 11th November 2003 13:20

Fortunately, the only reminder of Retailmas I'll have this year is the required tree in the restaurant. Fookin' Oklahomos come here to ski over the holidays, then expect us to play Santi Claus for them.

zootm 11th November 2003 16:51

here (my flat), i don't have a tree, hence nothing was on it.

at home (where my family lives), our tree is a little ornamental fibre-optic affair, that you can't really stick stuff on (we don't have space for a full-sized one). i was still away when it went up, so i dunno.

zootm's contribution to thread - zero.
