help: freeze ups

I have a Compaq Presario 133MHZ. It has 98se and it freezes on startup sometimes. Is there a problem with the computer or the program. I run Scandisk and Defrag and it runs fine for a while without problems. After a while it'll freeze when starting up. Solutions?

Damn, if I had as many problems as you've had with computers since you arrived here, I'd live in a cave:p

Belive me, my Personal Confuser probably has way more problems than anyone else's; I just don't feel like reporting all of them or else I'd reach Forum King in a day!

If it's started recently think back to what it was you did before it started happening. Did you install a program? Remove a program? Delete all files that didn't show normal charachters when opened in a text editor? When are you running scandisk? On startup before windows is loaded or when windows is loaded? Are you running any programs in the background when performing a scan? Are there any programs that are running when your PC freezes? Do you run a firewall and virus scanner? Does the virus scanner run all the time in the back ground? Are its virus definitions up todate? Do you scan for ad-ware and remove all of it regularly?
