Apple G5 Advertisements Banned

An advertisement for the new Apple Power Mac G5 claimed it was "the world's fastest, most powerful personal computer".

Viewers complained that the advertising was misleading because the main claim was based on the results of limited tests in which the specification of the computers used was configured to give Apple the best results.

Due to the technical nature of the advertiser's response, the ITC asked the BACC to refer the complaints and the response to the BACC's expert. He found that the claim was not supported by independent reviews and that at best "the G5 was generally as fast as the best Intel-based workstations currently available".

The ITC considered that there was insufficient evidence to support the claim "world's fastest, most powerful personal computer". Furthermore, it shared one viewer's doubt that the claim could be substantiated at all because, as evidence for and against the claim had shown, computers were constantly being updated and had many different applications and benchmarks. It reminded the BACC of the importance to obtain solid evidence for such absolute claims. It judged that the advertising was misleading and required that it should not be re-shown in its current form.

Conclusion:

Complaints upheld. Breach of ITC Code Rule 5.2.1.

So 8 complaints = banned? More strict than these forums. haha :blah:

Interesting, and where does that apply to?
I never liked the blunt lies of the apple champain.
It is NOT the first 64-bit personal computer, it is NOT the fastest pc, at all.
Blunt lies. Apple needs to shooth themselvs in the foot, and start over again.

False advertising is false advertising. :down:

Seriously though, I don't know what to say about Apple. So I'm not even going to bother.

Apple has always gotten the short peenie and has obviously resorted to whatever it takes to gain ground.

Ya, it does look damn nice, but too bad apple had to go and fuck it up, and still use the PPC archatecture, should have used the athlon 64 core. Then it would have bragging rights.

keep in mind, mister gates is a super genius buisnessman, the best in the world, he wont be defeated with a simple fine and release of a little source code.

His own farther belives that he is a-moral, he has set up a trust to see bills money spent on decent things... ..good for him.

as for Apple, I HATED that advert, it was such a load of Crap. I like apple, there good computers, but there by no means the best. What I would like to see banned is that Dell one

"...plus free double memory..." - Eh? Double memory? Double the speed? Double the ammount? double the price?

I'd pay $3 billion to get Dell to stop the TV bombardment.
