Living In The Greatest Nation In The World, And Proud Of It
Note that he didn't say he hates the flag, just the hysterical people.
http://www.globeandmail.com/servlet/...Entertainment/ Patriotism That's SOOOO American, though they aren't the only culture with too much of that. I haven't been to USA, but lot's of people living there seems to think this way: Quote:

America's NOT a liberal democracy. It just ain't!

If that article you linked had anything to do with Texans or written by one... I apologize. They're a different species altogether. And y'all think American pride is off-putting to say the least, pray that you never experience the Texas Pride. :igor: |
if they gonne boycot every band that ever made a political statement it's going to be silent on the airwaves.

I say let's give Texas back to Mexico or nuke it. |
OK I'll take the bait
Here are some parrelells. After the shock of Pearl Harbor and WWII certain leaders went on a communism witch hunt. Now after 9/11 some are going after anit-patriots. Don't worry though, because like then it will wear off in a decade or two and the national landscape will sink back into a self-absorbed, desparate to be different, fuck America attitude. The average american will be just like you. |
...mean while, some Americans lives may or will be ruined, just like in the 50's. But thats okay, because in another 50 years the US goverment may or may not apologise for their error.
|
Besides through control of the media and its general slant to the ruling party we shall make the masses forget and not care.

Quoting Bill Hicks : Go back to sleep America, go back to sleep.

a sad day for music, indeed :(

What the hell? The radio station can do what ever it wants. So you librals are not liking the idea of a radio station having freedom of speech and freedom of choice?
|
yeah, but i doesn't make it one bit less retarded....

I know my country has a severely tarded government but still.....what did the regular American do to you? |
hey now! I'm from texas!
http://www.evenhand.com/pics/texas_flag.jpg and I agree with the quote. I hate seeing the US flag in shambles because of neglect on people's cars, or in their front yards. People have no respect for the flag. Their heart in in teh right place, but their heads are in their asses. You do NOT leave the fla out in the rain or snow. If it touches the ground, you burn it. If it becomes torn, you burn it. These are laws. |

Your guy's anti-Americanism is almost scary...
It's also very funny what you guys think it's like here. "Hi ya'll!" ROFL |
Ehhh, I think some americans pro-americanism is scary.
I don't think all americans are like that (and it's sure nice if you're not a typical redneck), but in swedish there's a saying like "emtpy barrels makes most noise". That means that usually the most simple [naive] people think they've got most to say. |
This "anti-American" thing is becoming tiresome. Once again;
It is not "anti-American" to critize the politics, politians or president of your country. It is not "anti-American" to say some of your media is appalling bad and biased. If I were to say that all Americans are scum-sucking bottom feeders....that would be anti-American and quite wrong. We're not saying that, we're saying your president is a moron, your foreign policy is a mess, your politians are corrupt and media is sh*te. See the difference? Oh, yeah...the same applies to the corrupt bunch we have in goverment in the UK to. See, I can critize my own goverment to. |

And we're all grateful that you were saved by moving to Illinois(?) ;) Obviously Chev's had a couple of run-ins with the Texans I'm talking about... be very careful with those. |
At work, they added an ammendment to the Security Protocol.
We are to report ANYONE who speaks ill of america, its leaders, and the like. So when I said it was gay that bush is trying to take away our overtime, i was <consuled>(sp). Then i was talked to about the language I used while being consuled. The officers finally gave up and just said don't do it again. The power of my mouth to destroy is beyond belief. |

I disagree on musical taste with Justin Timberlake and I do not play any of his songs. Does that make me retarded? I am sure you disagree with me and if I ever record a techno/polka cover of the Iranian nation anthem I am sure you would not play it. Does that make you retarded? Please be clearer next time. |
there's a big difference between not playing music because you don't like it, and not playing it for the above reasons....
sorry, but i just happen to think that, im not trying to offend you or anything... |

I think the problem is that the radio station is there to play music and a
bit of chit-chat. If they decide not to play a record because it dosen't fit in with their music playlist, thats fine. However, to decide not to play a record because of the beliefs of one of the band members is a bit poor in my opinion. Anderson didn't state that he hated the flag, he just felt that such overt displays of patriotism were not to his liking. The decision by the radio station not to play Jethro Tulls music is an action based on intolerance to the views of others. Although the station is well within its rights not to play their music, it is small minded and really, rather pathetic. Rather, it should have conducted an interview with Anderson and challenged his views in debate. It's like the renaming of French Fries to Freedom Fries; very sad, very intolerant and rather pathetic. |

There is no debate from celebreties. They jump in front of a camera shoot off a few phrases then run for cover. There has always been a little bitterness in the American public for that fact. We put all these celebrities on pedestals which they turn into soap boxes for their politics. Even that would be OK if they at least represented the spectrum of America's beliefs, but they don't. Entertainers seem to be predictably liberal. I never refused to listen to a song because of a performer who said something I didn't like but I can at least understand people who do. |
And these forums are your soap box, the only difference is less people like you.
|
Oh your breaking my heart
|
My point was people have access to different kinds of media to get their point accross. I don't see what the difference is between you stating an opinion here and someone doing it on TV is. The only difference is the ammount of people that will hear it, which is what seems to annoy you.
|
With all due respect, what did we do to you?
With respect, it's not so much what the US has done as what we believe you might do or are trying to do.
Filing a patent for a type of rice that has been grown by Asian farmers for thousands of years. GM food by stealth. Free trade agreemants that you insist on and then ignore and carry on protectionist marketing. Squirming out of global anti pollution agreements. Bush's financial backers starting a war so they can get a return on their investment. Q. What's the difference between an Iraqi tank and a British tank? A. Don't ask me I'm in the US Air Force. But it's your country and if you want to proudly wave your flag in defiance of critics. Go for it. But the accompanying jingoism and paranoia is, on occaision sickening to outsiders, and other occasions downright laughable. ie. Shortly after 9/11 an elected rep from a New England state was on her way to a conference in Chigago. At her departure airport she was arrested by lots of big men with lots of big guns. Her flight ticket had been cancelled, her hotel room cancelled, the conference had been informed that she was unable to attend. Why? Becuase she's a subversive. Guilty of farming organic apples! How un-American is that. She got what she deserved, don't you worry. Your all a little safer now. |
No that's not what annoys me. My point was that they use the fame WE gave them to mouth off about things which we may not believe.
Quote:
If they were debating it would be a different story. I respect any celebs that go to the right forum to say what they believe. (Genine Garafolo EG, if I spelled her name wrong... sue me ) Anyway I want to make something clear. I only refuse to listen to music or watch movies if the performers suck. I'm not trying to justify what they did only explain where it comes from. The complaints at the radio station were probably from activists. I would've just rolled my eyes when I heard Anderson. |
