Turkey Day is coming!
Since it's almost Thanksgiving, I thought it would be interesting to find out some of your Thanksgiving traditions.
Both of my grandmothers have six children each, so Thanksgiving is a major family gathering for me. We usually cook two kinds of turkey (grilled and deep fried), baked ham, and fried chicken. We don't have "stuffing". We eat it on the side and call it "dressing". I don't think anyone in my family knows how to make cranberry sauce because we eat the canned kind. And we have lots of desserts: banana pudding, chocolate cake, pumpkin pie, carrot cake, etc. The parade is on TV, but nobody's really watching it because we're too busy eating and talking. |
I'm going to have a deep fried turkey for the first time this year. Our stuffing is served on the side, also. I'll be making an orange/cranberry sauce. Who knows what we'll have for desert. There's going to be a lot of people there, so there's bound to be a big variety of waistline wrecking goodies!

We're having Roast Duck instead of Turkey mother said for some reason.
|
This year we're actually going to have a few Asian dishes alongside the more traditional fare. I'm doing the dessert baking, but, decided to cheat a little. I'll bake pumpkin pie and cheesecake, but I'll bake this dessert bread I bought from my coworker. Just let it rise over night and bake in midmorning.
We'll watch Macy's Parade. Rugrat's old enough this year to be entertained by it. Then it will be the required foot ball game. Does anyone know if John Madden's gonna do the Turkey Bowl this year and who's playing? |
I'm cooking the dinner this year. This is what I plan........
Starter - Crab, King Prawns. Main dish - Turkey, steak, garlic mushrooms, chipolatas, stuffing, corgettes, brocoli, sweetcorn, chestnuts. It'll be a doddle. 10 minutes in the kitchen. |
:drools: Can I crash the party, Cylob?
|
My Thanksgiving tradition: Celebrate it in October!
|
Is Thanksgiving different in Canada than it is in the US? I know the day is different, but what about the traditions? Do you have a big feast? Do they have parades?
|
Feast: Yes
Parade: No |
My parents and I usually go to Thanksgiving parties held by their fellow asian friends, so I eat all that I can be4 I eventually throw up :).
|
Fuck Thanksgiving.
Only thing good about it is I get to watch Detroit get a ass whooping. Well that and sticking my dick in the turkey. |

I stuff the turkey with thanks, thanks to all those who are about to enjoy my special baby batter gravy.
I'll surely hook up afterwards. |
my dads side of the family usually all gets together. this year we arent though :(
instead we are spending it with my moms side of the family. which is smaller then my dads side, and doesnt eat as much.. i love thanksgiving...so much food, so good...mm.m..i love food. |
Chev... that is sick.
I ususaly spend it with my mother side of the family, and we usualy go to my aunts house 5 hours away. But my grandfather has a really bad case of cancer at the moment, so it is bein held at their house this year. We dont do anything out of the ordenary. Just maybe some pusdo-finnish/norwegon, something, seeing my grandmother is obsesive with that, and she is that nationality. My fathers side, who knows what happens there, crazy italians. I assume there is a crapload of food avalible. |
It falls on my brothers birthday (Nov27th)this year. A couple years ago it fell on mine (Nov24th), and it never fell on my mothers (29th).
It also never fell on my grandmothers (Nov17th) or my Uncles (Nov19th). My cousin's birthday (Dec17th) was so close to Christmas his father would just get him more presents on Christmas. Sucks for him. His Sister had the same problem (Dec20th) and so did a friend of mine (Dec22th). My fathers best friend was born on groundhogs day, my aunt was born on the Fourth of July, and a random cousin I met in a family reunion back when I used to go claimed he was born on Christmas. Hard to tell if he was lying, I was twelve. |

Uh, Chev, the genocide came about 200 years after the first Thanksgiving.
|
uh, Mike, they started dying pretty soon after the Europeans showed. It was when the white man started getting really stupid that things got really greasy.
|
Nevertheless, Thanksgiving is not a celebration of the killing of Native Americans. If it was, I wouldn't celebrate it because some of my ancestors were Cherokee Indians.
|
But since there's no "Native American Month" or any holidays recognising the thousands hunted and cornered and sedated into obedience, it's good to think about these things at least once in a while.

Where do you think the murderers came from?
Are you proud that your pussy assed ancestors wiped out an entire race so you could live in North America? I'd have killed all the white men I could had I lived back then, starting with forum ignoramuses:rolleyes: |

We'll get ya' to go to somebody's place for Thankgiving, and then we will send over a Stripper dressed as a pilgram... You can dress up as the sexy Native American Guy( in a non- Village People kind of way) and play "Custar and The Indian Maid" in reverse!:D:up: Widdykats: because The Holidays are fucking depressing... |
Sorry, I shouldn't have been posting in my condition last night:(
The hangover'll be sufficient punishmnet, I'm sure. |
