Its snowing! All the people here and on the news are all like, "Doh snow is poopy." But I am so Happy because its Snowing in Seattle! I'm going snowboarding :)

Here in NC we don't even know what snow is. It might snow one day a year. And if there's even a chance of a snowflake falling everybody says, "AAAH! A snowflake! We gotta cancel school and close all the offices!" And then it might not even snow.

i live in granite falls about 40 miles from seattle..up in da mountains. we got about 3inches today and the power just came back on. it went out 2:00 this morning and i was in the middle of pouring my candles! the wind was abt 40 to 50 mph. the damn wind brought snow :( ...BURRRRRRR!

Umm, what are we supposed to be excited for? I don't mind the little lite powder we get here, but no way do I want snow all winter. That's what Crystal Mountain or Pixie's place is for.

It's a pain in the ass to drive in AND the icy roads are a bitch.

I don't mind driving in the snow. It's everyone else trying to drive in it that pisses me off. Here's a little hint to all you people who moved here from places that don't get snow...
Just because you have an SUV doesn't mean you can drive like it's summer all year long!

Hehehe, we watch the news reports for the SUV idiots who believe that they can drive however they want through snow and ice. It's always great fun seeing clips of them stuck on the side on roads cause they think they're invinciable :D

I'm too pussy to take my Focus ZX3 out in the mud yet. But if I'm gonna aim for racing in the SCCA Rally, winter-time is a good time to brush up on my rally skills... :D

snow is fun to play in. im not quite sure about driving in it. I never had to drive in the snow before and now I might have to drive a bus in it. I just hope the weather stays the same as it did today for a while. I remember last winter, the only notable snow happened in spring, heh. gotta love that Colorado weather.[/mindless ramble]

here in the mountains we call those people "granola bars". they are the ones from seattle and other big cities that come to the mountains to play... well they dont know how to drive in the snow!

Having grown up in the Midwest, driving in the snow is second nature for me, I got my learners permit in December. But when I moved to the Puget Sound I thought it was so funny when it snowed there. We would get an inch or two of snow and it would practically shut down Seattle. The first time it snowed after I moved there I was driving a ’76 Corolla with 60 series tires on all four corners. I was having a blast driving home from work, traffic was almost nonexistent so I was powersliding and doing 360’s all over the place. Then I noticed a police car with its lights flashing behind me about three quarters of a mile. After a couple of minutes it dawned on me that he was trying to pull me over, even though he hadn’t gotten any closer, so I stopped and waited for him to catch up. When he finally caught up to me he said something about seeing me spin out about 4 miles back and warned me to be careful because the road conditions were very slippery. The last good snowfall we got while I lived there was about 5-6 inches in the Seattle area. I was on my way to work in my ’57 Jeep and the highway was basically hard packed tire tracks, not smooth but broken up in spots. Since my Jeep rides like a buckboard I was doing about 25-30mph to try and save my kidneys, and someone in a brand new Denali (still had the temporary tags in the window) passed me, doing about 50-55mph. He wasn’t driving like an idiot but I was thinking “Where is he in such a hurry to go, nothing is going to be open today anyway?” I watched him disappear over the next hilltop and sure enough, as I got to the crest of the hill; there he was, standing on the side of the road, talking on his cell phone, brand new Denali buried in the snow in the ditch. I smiled and waved as I went by.
They are predicting we will get two feet of snow here this weekend. If it just accumulates over the weekend that won’t be so bad, but if we get it all at once it will be a mess. But not as bad of a mess as when I lived on Pilchuck. At least I will still have electricity here.

There werent to many car accidents near seattle but i heard of some jack knifeing semi trucks in the pass area. Driving in the snow is damn fun :) Watching SUV's on the news in the ditch is fun :) Sliding my sedan around 90 degree turns is fun :) Throwing a snow ball at my sister while she is sleeping at 6:30 in the morning to wake her up is fun :)

Don't count on it! Our little blizzard last spring was kind of fun. I got to watch a couple of our neighbors get stuck right in the parking lot! I also drove a Metro at that time. It was almost buried in the snow. My nephew was literally sliding off the back of my car!

Just a little comment on this, if there is no snow underneath your tires, you CAN drive whatever speed you normally do.

And driving in the snow can be fun if there is no one else around. Try stepping on the gas about 1/4 way through a corner. It kicks out the back end and lets you slide through a corner. Great fun :D

....And yes I do drive an SUV.

Not always, you have ice as well, and even worse the dreaded black ice. But if you've got everything under control and all, it's a blast to drive in. Small SUVs are the best for playing in icey weather with. We used to have a Forester and even though it was AWD, you could still party hard flyin into an empty parkin lot goin sideways. Yup.

ya.. its also funny to look at them folded because of the stupid driver behind the wheel. :blah:

If you have front wheel drive is a little harder to get your rear end to slide out. Especially If you have a heavier sedan such as mine.

Oh yeah... Front wheel drive is a bitch sometimes though, with understeer and all.

Hmm, we get snow for about two weeks every year up here around Greensboro. Though what you said about schools and offices still holds true. Snow rocks at first, but then it turns into ice. And ice hurts when you fall.

Rear wheel drives aren't all that hard to drive under shitty conditions (If you're good at feathering the throttle and you can make counter-steering corrections quick without too much sketchiness and/or your car isn't an over-powering horsepower monster), but front drivers are still easier to drive otherwise, since there's no power sent to the rear wheels that could make you oversteer and lose control. Rear and all-wheel driven cars still show better handeling and acceleration performance all-around, but otherwise in conditions where the loss of traction is common in the driving experience (Snowy and rainy conditions), AWD and FWD are better (As proven when they mainly dominate WRC, although it varies in Pikes Peak). :)

Oh, and it did start to snow by the 2nd hour I was in school...Just small flurries that didn't really amount to anything and didn't stick, but it was still snow, and it was damn cold enough for some kind of it...Kinda funny how when there's a first snow of the season, most of the people act like they've never seen snow before in their lives... :rolleyes:
