Ok Im totally lost.......
 

Right i want to set up my own shoutcast server because I have my own web space.....

Ive downloaded Winamp 2, shoutcast-dsp-1-8-2b-windows and shoutcast-1-9-2-windows

Ive got it working on a localhost thats when I dont do anything but i dont get how I get it out to people on the web. Do i need to upload something?

If you put in localhost in the address box and you're receiving no errors in the DNAS log, then all you have to do is link them:

Link using this format: http://yourIP:yourPORT/listen.pls Replace "yourIP" with your IP (which you can find here) and "yourPORT" your portbase defined by your DNAS (server) config file. The default is 8000.

If you have a dynamic IP, you can get a static name at [url]www.no-ip.com[url].

Where is the catch in this? Because Ive seen that you have to pay for like 10 listners or what not........

Is it to do with my ISP bandwidth?

Because Im limited to 1GB a day if it goes past that I get charged?

You don't have to pay unless you pay someone to host your DNAS. If you're interested: Third party DNAS hosting

so whats the difference between 3rd party hosting and creating your own server???

Hosting your own server is free, but you can't hold that many listeners at a good bitrate. Also, people may get buffering which is frustrating.

Getting hosted costs money, but it ensures that you can have a good quality stream with as many listeners as you'd like without the fear of buffering or, in your case, using too much bandwidth a day.

its all working now but I dont wanna risk using bandwidth so Im gonna look into finding a 3rd party host :)

if you don't want to spend the money on a third party host, you can use the bandwidth calculator I posted above to find out how many listeners you should allow and at what bitrate. That way, you should be able to limit your upload bandwidth usage.

My connection speed is 150k if that helps?

Just done some research and NTL (My ISP in the UK) Limit me to 1GB of bandwidth a day.

and I read thats about 200 music tracks it might be less because its streaming but I don like the look of the "Sent" field counting up were it says something like 2202383 bytes (Example) that seems an awful lot. Im not good with all this maths milarky :rolleyes:

Then maybe it would be best for you to get a third party host, if you're unsure about the way your ISP handles things.
