Backcoding from NSV to AVI

Does anyone know of a program that will "backcode" from an NSV file to a AVI file? Lets say I have some NSV files but not the original source files and wanted to burn these files on a DVD or play them in a non-nsv compatible PC. Anyway to do this, that anyone knows of or am I just out of luck with these files?

hmm, teoretically mencoder (*nix) may support it, at least it claims (haven't tested) that it can store realvideo in avi

It is possible demux NSV to audio and video by demux.exe of NSVTools.
But those demuxed video is raw video, not in avi format.
I don't know how to wrap raw VP3 or VP6 video in avi container.
If possible this,(raw video -> avi)It is easy to convert to another format.
Does anybody know tools that wrap raw video to avi format?

it IS possible

Download Mplayer and the "AllCodec" Pack
and use the mencoder.exe to convert to avi-format first.
cmd:

mencoder -ovc help (video codecs)
mencoder -oac help (audio

The further converting to other formats you can manage yourself I think!

I had success with mencoder. I gave up too soon before. This is the command line i used.

mencoder "016_Ralph Super Freak.nsv" -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=2000 -oac mp3lame -lameopts preset=standard -o "016_Ralph Super Freak.avi"

NSVdemux choked on that file, mencoder rocked it.

Hi!

Mencoder doesn't work with my Win XP Pro.
If I start it, there is 1 second a Window, after that it disappeares.
I read it is a tool for linux, can i use it for windows, too?

Otherwise: Is there an alternative?

I apologize for my bad english.
I looking forward to hearing from you guys.

VLC will also re-encode to AVI formats of your choice.

Yeah, it's a command line program just like nsvenc/nsvscsrc. This is also one of the most common and most retarded questions about these two programs, and their answers are all over the forum :(

open up cmd first then run it

Now this is what gets frustrating sometimes. People who are trying to set up a server, when they don't even know how to basically work a computer.

I guess in a GUI driven world, we could expect that.

I'm not really picking on you Chakkari (BTW cool handle).

Now go take a couple computer courses at your community college and come back in a couple months.

I'm no Computer-Noob!
The opposite: I'm interested in computers and I know a lot of!
My problem was, that the program didn't start!

drewbar 24th July 2005 08:45

The program did start, but it closed because you did not give it the required parameters. It needs to be run from the command line (CMD or COMMAND). Double clicking on the icon won't work.

It works with cmd.exe, thanks!

Where I have to store the file I want to encode? Because the programs says, it can not be found.

Thanks

sns2015 24th July 2005 16:17

I think it has to be stored in the same directory as mencoder.

chakkary 25th July 2005 16:40

I did that but there's again this message, the data cannot be found....
