MMD3 skin

i uninstalled all versions of winamp and installed rc666 onto my omputer. but like any other versions of winamp5, i still wasn't able to use the MMD3 skin. however, i was still able to use other winamp3 skins but i just cant use MMD3. MMD3 is such a great skin! can someone help me?

james 16th December 2003 02:00

Did you do a clean install of Winamp5? Have you tried WA5-final? Did you redownload MMD3? What do you mean by "i just cant use MMD3" exactly? Does it crash? Not display? System specs?

Childaish 16th December 2003 10:50

they just say that winamp hs generated an error, i will try the final version.

Childaish 16th December 2003 11:20

i uninstalled the previous version and installed winamp5 final. but i still cannot use the mmd3 skin

james 16th December 2003 11:23

Do a clean install of WA5 final, and download MMD3 again from the website.

Then report back again :)

Childaish 16th December 2003 11:27

what do you mean by clean uninstall and clean install. i just go to the start menu -> winamp -> uninstall???

james 16th December 2003 12:06

Uninstall Winamp completely.

Make sure the directory is deleted after you uninstall. (Program Files -> Winamp)

Then reinstall, and download MMD3 from the Winamp website. I'll be very surprised if it doesn't work after that :p

Childaish 16th December 2003 12:21

oh god, i tried what you said but it still canot work

james 16th December 2003 12:24

What version of Windows are you running? What is the exact error message you get?

Childaish 16th December 2003 12:42

this is the message i get:

Winamp has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you were in the meddle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.

Please tell Microsoft about this problem.
We have created an error report that you can send to us. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous.

I am currently using XP

james 16th December 2003 12:55

Update all your drivers for everything. Video card, sound card, Windows Update etc etc etc.

XP Home? Pro? Service pack?

Childaish 16th December 2003 12:59

home.. but the problem is i can use other winamp3 skins but just not MMD3

james 16th December 2003 13:15

Are you SURE you've downloaded a clean, non-corrupted version of MMD3 from the Winamp website? From what you've said, this is the most likely cause of the problem...

Childaish 16th December 2003 13:20

i dont know, i just d/led the skin from the winamp website..

james 16th December 2003 13:25

did you download again after installing your fresh copy of Winamp 5?

Childaish 16th December 2003 13:28

yesh

james 16th December 2003 13:31

Well in that case, I'm stumped.

I'm still not convinced that you've actually installed a clean copy of both WA5 and MMD3 though... :p

Childaish 16th December 2003 13:33

i really did. i uninstalled the skin and winamp. and i downloaded a new winam5 installer and also the new MMD3 skin, but it jsut doesn't work

james 16th December 2003 13:41

How weird. Someone wiser than me's going to have to take this one on.

*squints sideways at DJEgg*

;)

Childaish 16th December 2003 13:44

well, maybe i will try update my drivers and everything as you suggested and then i will report again.

war59312 16th December 2003 14:39

Just go to windows update and update everything.

What are your specs.

And since this is reproduceable for you tell me excatly what you do to get this error. Seeing as this skin works perfectly fine for me.

cya,
Will

sanosuke 16th December 2003 16:31

I have a feeling that its a bad download of the skin.
what is the size of the skin file? (it should be 995KB)

theknub 16th December 2003 16:44

im also having problems. clean install of wa5 final, clean download of skin, etc etc. my problem however is that it doesn't display the main window. i can bring up the playlist window, color themes, EQ, but no main window. it is checked saying it is being displayed, but i get nothing. it is a real stumper for me. all the other wa3 (or should i now say modern type skins :D ) work fine. any suggestions 'cause i can't figure it. normally i would delete studio.xnf but i looked and didn't see it. doesn't mean it wasn't there, but i didn't see it at the time.

Childaish 16th December 2003 23:45

the size of the file is 995kb. when i open the skin, nothing comes out, a window just appears telling me that winamp has generated an error

Childaish 16th December 2003 23:46

by the way, i have updated my computer but the skin still doesn't work

JonnyMac 17th December 2003 00:30

Do you have a 3rd party download accelerator/manager? If so, temporary disable it and try downloading the MMD3 again. Before downloading delete the "bad" copy of the MMD3 skin.

Childaish 17th December 2003 00:42

i tried what you said but it still didn't work

JonnyMac 17th December 2003 01:19

You might want to try contacting Sven Kistner the author of MMD3 skin. He also developed the Winamp Modern skin. If you go to the skin browser (Ctrl+P > Skins) and click on the Winamp Modern skin his e-mail address will appear skin info box.

Childaish 17th December 2003 01:27

ok..

theknub 17th December 2003 02:03

yeah... im not having nearly the same problems. any ideas for mine?

It should be in the Winam 5 folder, usually C:\Program Files\Winamp depending on where WA5 was installed. Delete the file while Winamp is not running. Try closing down Windows and reboot the computer if you can not see the Studio.xnf file.

theknub 17th December 2003 02:16

hmm... i'll take another look, maybe i just missed it

/edit
yep... just found it. i swear i am blind.

CWC_Cougar 31st December 2003 00:35
