Winamp 5 stutters when scrolling in internet explorer
I'm not sure what exactly is going on, but when I scroll in internet explorer winamp 5 cuts out or stutters. I have the most upto date sound drivers for my audigy 2. I just was using winamp 2.9 previous to uninstalling it and installing 5 and I never had any problems before........
Any ideas on what might be causing this? I have a logitech optical mouse and as I said I have a audigy 2 soundcard. |
Is your audio output set to waveOut? Switch to DirectSound instead. CTRL+P for preferences > Plug-ins > Output
*Note: I also had the same problem as you did, but ONLY with MIDIs. I solved that problem easily. So, if you also get the problem with MIDIs, then do this... CTRL+P for preferences > Plug-ins > Input > Nullsoft MIDI player 3.03 [in_midi.dll]. Press the Configure button. Under the Device Tab, change the Device to any one that starts with "Direct Music". I personally use "Direct Music /Microsoft Synthesizer (with output)". |
no go man, i was already using direct sound. Anyone else have any ideas?

OK. You said that you have the most up to date drivers for your Audigy card... right? But were they obtained through Creative? If so, then they are probably crap. Since you still have the problem, remove the Creative drivers and try the KX Drivers instead.

i know all about those drivers, that would be pretty sad if that is what i have to do to use winamp considering the million people that have audigy cards.....I'm thinkin there has to be another answer.

Try some of this:
Internet Explorer -> Tools -> Options -> Advanced: Uncheck "use smooth scrolling" Winamp -> Prefs -> Plugins -> Output -> DirectSound -> config: Device tab: Checkmark "enable hardware acceleration" Make sure GayLabs SoundMangler card ;) is selected as Device Buffering tab: Checkmark "enable cpu usage control" If the problem persists, then it's definitely a driver issue. A possible fix?
I had been having this problem for a long time too, but only in Windows 2000 (I have a dual boot system with 98/2k). I was checking out the forums here for a fix while trying to update everything imagineable on my computer (drivers, windows, winamp, everything).
The one update that *seems* to have fixed it is DirectX. (Odd, b/c I didn't even know that winamp uses any directx stuff???). But hey, it can't hurt, right? Google "directx" and install the latest one. It seems to have fixed mine. I can play the intro to homestarrunner.com and Frank Sinatra's New York New York at the same time and I don't crackle anymore. Good luck. |
I used to have this problem with 2.x when using PCI video cards... Doesn't do that with agp.
just in case :) |
P.S.
My email is miketwo@mail.com if any of the mods want my comp specs or more info concerning this issue. I've always loved winamp, so if there's anything I can do to help make it better, it will be done.
Cheers! :) -Mike |
why not change the application priority (also referred to as thread priority) in the preference tab underneath "winamp pro" to high (Time Critical is not recommended!)?

Re: A possible fix?

Latest version is v9.0b We usually recommend this, but only when the poster provides all relevant system specs, including Windows OS . . . which fireblade74 didn't. eg. WinXP comes with DX 8.1b, so should be ok although an update never hurts. Whereas Win2k & WinME come with DirectX 7.x (old & buggy), and Win98 comes with DX6 (eek). DirectSound, DirectPlay, DirectDraw, Direct3D, DirectInput are all the components of DirectX. |
