Browser problems - which is the best and easiest?
 

I am at Cliffs house and he has Netscape and IE downloaded into his computer.

Which is the best browser to use? It seems like Netscape it being a hog and wanting to override ie. He uses netscape because he likes the email program it comes with.

Does mozilla have a email program?

I know that Mozilla and Netscape are related, but never having used Netscape I can't say how similar the e-mail progs are. Mozilla Firebird is is the new browser, set to replace the original Mozilla, and Mozilla Thunderbird is its partner e-mail program, though it is a seperate program.

They are both excellent products.

I use the new Netscape 7.1 all the time(or Opera) compareing IE to it is like comaparing a lada to a Ford.



Also i recomend Opera also. Its my no 1 browser.

Proud user of Netscape 7.1 and ive never had problems with it yet. me likes it cause u only need one main window open to c web pages as it has tabs. althought on a side note does anyone who uses netscape 7.1 know how to get just one window to come up when u click on and attachment here in the forums instead of having to download the image to ur hd?

Use the mozilla suite Much better than IE. Its the winamp of browsers.

Opera for me, its great. Opera owns.

IE it's by default there. Alternative Firebird :)

Opera. Changed about 6 months ago and I'll never go back. Opera is a great browser.....built in pop-up stopper as well.

I prefer Opera, though some pages insist on breaking themselves if they detect it, atm ebay. I have tried Firebird and found it's rendering engine a bit lacking, if you are against paying or "paying" for a browser then Firebird all he way. I use Firebird to access pages that dislike Opera as they seem to not have a problem with FB atm.

Opera, havent tried the M2 email client, but teh browser is perfect.

As much as I love the new upcomming browsers (thunderbird and firebird see above)... I have to stick with Mozilla, the reason is because it's not an beta project and it's very stable.
I.E. is nice and all, but the problem with internet explorer (comming from a web pade developer's side) is that it fosters too much of it's own cooding, and does not make it easy to code properly for other browsers. Also I.E. contrary to popular belief is very easy to use. I'm not saying that is isn't a great browser and all... it's pretty darn good, but it is a hog when it comes to using the Internet, and with all of the constant bug alters, flaws, and issues you are really better off with another browser.

I use Netscape 7.1 and Opera just in case. IE is MEH.

Mozilla firebird is where its at. I have been using it since version .1, and its amazing.
Also the Thunderbird email client is getting to be a very good app. It is already my main (only) email client.

Opera is super fast, stable, even if it does crash (or you accidentally end the process, or your whole PC goes down), you can go right back to where you were...

Opera is the best browser around.

Opera costs money which is why I dont use it. Even though it may be slightly better than Mozilla Firebird/Thunderbird

Mozilla is still a little buggy. If you want a better browser try Opera cuz its tiny then try Mozilla Suite 1.5 or whatever they have. If you are super nerdy and know how to work around bugs use Mozilla Firebird/Thunderbird.

Firebird can be both easy and complicated. It depends on the downloads you get for it. Plus installing it is not like other installers. Opera has a complicated settings menu thingy but most people should be able to get through it. Internet explorer sucks balls. Mozilla is pretty complicated in its settings and stuff but the browser interface, like mozilla firebird, is very simple.

Yep Opera is no 1. Fast and reliable.

Its just it can not render bad code.
Hopefully that will change.

Netscape no 2.

I use Firebird. the only problem so far is that i cant install flash or shockwavw plugins on it. When i stumble on pages that require that i use IE. I realy like tab browsing and the pop-up blocker.

You can use flash\shockwave with firebird, you have to download the netscape plugins for them, and install them to firebird/plugins.

I just use the Advertizing version. Doesn't bug me at all.

I used it back when it was in 0.4/0.5
and flash and shockwave worked.
Try the Netscape plugins.

I myself will try it again when it gets to 1.0 stage.

I also Preferd its old name.

Im a mostly a Opera user now . Payed for it and never looked back.

I dont know what the difference between Shockwave player and Flash player is. I thought they were bundled together but I guess not. Just install whatever one you need and when you do make sure to select your Mozilla Firebird Plugins directory. There is a subdir in the firebird or mozilla.org/mozilla directory called plugins. make sure to select custom instal and pick that directory.

I think (although I could be wrong) that Netscape and Mozilla or pretty similar (in the way that Moz is based on Netscape 4 and Netscape 7 is based on a version of Moz - Netscape is Mozilla 1.1 [I think] with added AOL stuff) and Firebird is the browser part of Mozilla with everything else removed, Thunderbird, is the standalone e-mail (from Mozilla) and Mozilla is the suite so Netscape plugins would work on Mozilla and Firebird (?)

Personally my default browser is Mozilla with IE used only for those sites that absolutely positively have to use IE (including one site I found that only needs IE to show wome wanky front-page with a menu that moves with the mouse! Copying URLs from IE and pasting into Mozilla shows the rest of the site worked fine)
