Songs without instrumentals?

As I mentioned Hevia in the other thread, i.e. an artist who makes incredible music using only one instrument - his pipes, a thought suddenly struck me: is it possible to produce music with no instrument at all?

Sure, it's hard to imagine any song in the modern era that doesn't involve a single instrument... but have any of you heard one such good song without an instrumental (possibly with only vocals or chorus)? Just curious to know.

PS: Please don't mention any song(s) related to Religion :)

try a search for the Flying Lizzards

they covered lots of songs not using any instrument.
-only you
-caravan of love

Try searching for "Bauchklang" - it's a Swiss band (I believe) and they make music simply with their mouths (but it doesn't really sound like beat box), kind of reggae style but really awesome to fall asleep and chill out with, some experimantal stuff too

I don't know if that's excactly what you are looking for but you can check them out anyway ;)

Mia:)

[edit]Here, I found their homepage for you, looks like they're from Austria: http://www.bauchklang.com/_static/home_e_flash.html[/edit]

@spaceplay & @Mia:

They use only vocals or chorus, I suppose?

Anyways, I'll check them out.

Mrs_Mia_Wallace 28th December 2003 14:31

Yes, they don't use any instuments or Computer sounds (although it sometimes sounds like it), only their voices...I wasn't sure what style of music you were looking for that's why I said I don't know if that's what you've been searching for...have fun! ;)

Mia:)

[edit]In the goodies section, you can even download some of their live music.[/edit]

Actually I was replying to spaceplay, but then noticed that you had posted just before my reply, so I edited my post correspondingly... sorry for the confusion :)

Any style or genre would do... as long as it is good :)

In the UK they're The Flying Pickets.

Believe it or not, they also did Smells Like Teen Spirit (complete with guitar solo).:D

"when will the forest speak...?" by sikth. although it's really only the singer, saying a poem, with loads of different voices. it rules.

Well, since you included that "no religion" thing, I can't say music from the middle ages... I don't think it's too hard to find a capella stuff. Doesn't Patti Smith do this a lot?

THPSFG 24th January 2004 08:57

I don't think that "Sunscreen" (god i hate that song) song had any instruments in it.

Rockapella does some good covers too like Take On Me, Semi-Charmed Life, Gangsta's Paradise, Every Breath You Take and Breakfast At Tiffanys
