Winamp5.01 + MMD3 = Bust

I got Winamp5.01 a couple of days ago. Generally ecstatic until I tried to load MMD3. Then it froze for about 5 seconds (Though the song kept playing) and then a message came up telling me the program had to close because of an error in Gen_ff.dll which I then figured out to be the modern skin support file. I'm running XP home and just in case it helps I was using the Bright orange color theme when I used Winamp3 for the last time.

Erm, help!

There have been several reports from users where the MMD3 skin causes crashes. Here are just a few...

WinAmp 5.01 crashes
Winamp 5 crash on some modern skin switches
MMD3 skin

The only thing I can tell you is to not use the skin until Sven Kistner (author of both the MMD3 and the Winamp 5 Modern Skin) gets around to troubleshooting and then updating the skin for Winamp 5. Matter of fact, do not use any 3rd-party authored skin that causes crashes for you, period.

I will say this though... I am running WinXP Pro build 2600 and the MMD3 skin causes no problems for me at all.

temporary fix

I have been having the same problem but seem to have a partial fix.

I too tried MMD3 2.2 with winamp 5 and initially it defaulted back to the classic skin. second try it crashed. Lastly I loaded (double-clicked) the MMD3 skin I had from winamp3. After flashing the skin, winamp crashed but when I restarted it, everything worked fine and still is. I'm not sure what extra bits there are in the MMD3 advertised for winamp 5 but the filesizes seem the same and the old one works.

hope this helps:) .

Here is another partial fix that worked for me:

Go into the winamp plug-in directory and remove all of the plugins that you have installed not the ones that are there by default. Place them into another folder and try to run winamp with the MMD3 skin. If it works then you have found the problem, all you need to do now is to keep adding your plugins back in to the plugin directory one by one then checking to see if winamp will start up. For me, it was my CD reader plugin (CDReader.dll). Hope this helps.

I've fixed that problem, as well as most of the problems w/ MMD3 that have come up thanks to Winamp5. The only problem I have left is fixing the REALLY ANNOYING font colors in the playlist: the 'highlight bar' and the 'currently playing item' are the EXACT SAME color, so if you click on the song that's playing, you get a gray bar where you can't see what the hell it says in the Playlist.

Working on it... Maybe Bart will return from the dead to help me out here.

All I need to know is the names of the color id for the two things, all I can find is this one:
<color id="studio.list.text" value="255,255,255"/>
And that's for the color of the items in the playlist that are NOT playing.

Argh.
Anyway, here's a link to my edited MMD3:

And a picture:

Note: Unzip the file to get the skin

I have been told the link to the MMD3-for-5 edit is broken. I would hope this fixes it:
