Visualization Window Disappearance
I am using Winamp 5. In previous versions of winamp, the vis window has stayed enabled after shutting down winamp and reloading. But in v.5 it seems that you have to re-enable it each time you start the program. Is there any way to get it to stay there?
I've already gone through all the options that I thought would apply, but no luck. I only found one that brings the window up when a song is played, which is a roundabout way to enable it. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks, Connor |
known issue.
Not really anything you can do about it, apart from the known workaround you referred to. Basically, I think the feature was removed due to a potential cpu-drain issue. ie. If Winamp opens and no music is playing, but vis plugin window is open, then cpu-usage can rocket sky high. Try it for yourself. Open Task Manager. Open Milkdrop, then stop the music.... |
Well what the hell is this milk program you are referring to? i'd like to try it out. As for system resources, i don't care that much, I know that winamp has always eaten up a lot, i just want the same winamp set up as when i start up. The "auto-startup" option is fine as long as i dont listen to music while i play a video game or something (a game that uses the full screen, and goes into windowed mode if winamp changes songs).
Any plans for winamp to fix that? I can deal with my current setup, cuz i only listen to winamp while playing CS like once a week or something :) but i think there should be a way to keep the vis open all the time, despite the resource drain (most computers are so well-stocked anyway now that it should matter less now than it did back in the pentium II days :P ) Connor |
The Milkdrop Visualization plugin comes with the default Winamp 5 setup.
You know how to select vis plugins, yes? Prefs -> Plugins -> Visualization... Watch cpu usage rocket up to maybe as high as 98% when you stop the music playing whilst Milkdrop is running. . . Your "fix" request pales in comparison ;) As I said, there's nothing much more I can personally say or do on the matter. Both issues have been reported to the devs. I've done my bit... note: If you run Winamp with the Modern skin, and close Winamp whilst the AVS window is running & attached to the main window, then it should still be attached & open/running when you reopen Winamp (well, it is for me anyway). As for unattached AVS window, in classic or modern mode, or any 3rd-party vis plugin window..... |
ahh yeah i bet the attached vis window stays there, but i've always preferred my vis window underneath everything else, so i'm SOL.
oh well, i'm glad it's been addressed before, i did some forum searches before posting and couldn't find anything, but i'm sure other users are experiencing the same thing. Thanks for your posts and information, I'll try to keep abreast of the situation, no matter how miniscule. BigConna |
