Well, it was a brief period in history (some would say thankfully)...

ShyShy 12th January 2004 17:33

Hey, now, there was some great stuff that came out of that era :p Can't be making fun of my local music scene like that :p

Cylob 12th January 2004 20:19

There was some great stuff. I'm just glad it went out with a bang... It was in the nature of the bands involved.

ShyShy 12th January 2004 22:23

Ahhhh, that was awful :p

Cylob 12th January 2004 22:38

Oh yeah.... out with a bang..... Kurt...

Well, they say americans haven't learned irony... yet.

/leaves quickly

taylormemer 12th January 2004 22:41

Lol, Kurt wasn't a real good singer anyway, Nirvana were good however, I just didn't think his singing was rreal good.:)

Cylob 12th January 2004 22:45

It was all part of the style - rather like punk. I admire Kurt for it, he unwittingly continued a fine British tradition...

'There are no rules'...

If Shy asks, you didn't see me...

The problem with the grunge period, as I see it, is that none of the big name grunge bands sounded similar at all. So, is grunge just any band from the northwest from the mid late 80s to the mid 90s? If so, you're ignoring Mudhoney, Wipers, and various other bands that are obscure but good.

Which grunge band are you?

lostonline 23rd June 2004 13:05

I can't think of that much grunge at the moment, but Nirvana - Nevermind is up there at the top. I still occasionally, when in the right mood listen, to a bit of Nirvana (usually when driving). Hole is probably somewhere in the list too.

SKMbeat 26th June 2004 19:35

"Grunge" *shutters at the made for TV label* was to define it, more of an appearance than anything. A bunch of different bands with a lot of different roots were suddenly thrown together with the label "grunge", because they appeared similar enough to be marketable together, by MTV and the Recording Industry.

"grunge" as most other things (hesitates to use the word "movement" ) in recorded music since the advert of corprate rock in the mid to late 70s, could never fall into a cohesive musical category, like blues(flattened fith), jazz (classical structures over blues intervals with a unique arrangement) or punk (power cords, simple arragements).

ShyShy 1st July 2004 16:45

All these bands owe a lot to the king of "grunge", Neil Young
