LAME Compiled for specific Winamp Use?
IMHO, NullSoft should compile Its own version of the LAME encoder for specific use from within Winamp5's Ripping/Main Interface.
Granted the Pro version uses the Fraunhofer/Thomson Encoder and im sure they dont want an opensource encoder freely included alongside thiers, i think thats just tough shit considering the debate about the proceeds of purchasing the PRO version go mostly (possibly totally) to them and NOT Nullsoft. And Yes Maybe thier Are people that DO want the F/T encoder currently offered in the Pro Purchase instead of LAME and can get it as they please buy doing exactly that purchasing it. So here is the User generated Discussion Thread/POLL to let Nullsoft know that there are those of us that want this ability and why we want it, and that I Myself and others im sure would have rather Paid NullSoft Directly for The ability To Add a custom compiled LAME Encoder or any other instead of being limited in choices. I am Currently running a donation drive in my local area mostly friends family and anyone else i can find to give me any money that i will later Donate Directly to Nullsoft For all thier hard Work over the years and especially for this marvelous version 5. I am Very Interested in hearing and discussing others users opinions on this and hope to see what you all have to say. Thanks to eveyone who votes and Discusses this topic. |
The pro version uses LAME.
They still have to pay thomson for the right to encode mp3. |
Im talking Custom Complied and highly configurable versions and the ability to install them directly into the encoder list.
and where exactly does it use LAMe? and why would Licensing for LAME be needed when EAC uses it and they dont need to pay for licensing for it? And we cant easily upgrade the Lame if i missed it to the current stable versions can we? |
Winamp pro uses LAME to encode the mp3s it rips.
the file winamp\plugins\lame_enc.dll contains LAME. EAC isn't packaged with LAME, it asks you to download it separatly. CDex gets around this by not basing itself in the US. You can install encoders into the list, just drop them into the winamp\plugins folder. |
You cant jsut drop a compiled LAME configuration into the plugins folder it wont recognize it ive tried

ok but still the encoding options page doesnt have the type of interface that is customizable except for preset configs, listen if you dont understand why i posted this i guess i stated wrong so you can delete it and i will come up with soemthing better. but i do have a valid point.

the encoder options part of the prefs is set by the enc_*.dll plugin.
Example: the ogg vorbis options has a quality slider the mp3 encoder had mode setting and a bitrate setting. Thus, the interface is cusomisable. |
