The toy you never got

A spin on missy's thread.

What was the toy/s that you had always wanted as a child, but never got?

I always wanted a Teddy Ruxspen(sp?) and a Pound Puppy :(

Fickle 14th January 2004 00:01

An electric Guitar. I was scarred for life, I have yet to learn one song on my acoustic.

Mike H. 14th January 2004 00:02

I always wanted a Game Boy, but I never got it.

MidnightViper88 14th January 2004 00:03

I wanted this one Lego set from the Aquabots series...It was really big (Can't describe anything else about it) and I really wanted it, but it costed about $60, or something around that expensive area...That was the same deal with alot of other Lego series sets...

I also wanted this Jurassic Park toy, which was of a T-Rex that had "dino damage" and it could "swallow" my other JP action figures...

I was really into dinosaurs and Legos when I was a kid, so anything that was of it, I was interested in, and I would want it...

MaDCaT75 14th January 2004 00:07

A vibrator

DJHotIce 14th January 2004 00:19

I really wanted a game boy. A Xbox, Playstation I & II, and a GameCube. (Couldn't get all of em, still have none of em)

My mum, simply refused to get one of these.
She said I'd only play with it once....

MidnightViper88 14th January 2004 01:33

Once? Why, maybe if you had more than one, but I'd be using it more than once in many different places... :D

sgtfuzzbubble011 14th January 2004 01:55

A go kart.

I have plans to build my own as soon as I get the funds, materials, equipment, and time. And it shall kicketh all ass.

ShyShy 14th January 2004 02:42

OMG!!!! Sarge, you would just love the people that live across the street from my parents house. I think you may be related :igor: First off, the guy must have a construction business, cause I see a couple of big dump trucks, some heavy equipment, huge-ass workshop with this gigantic Chevy emblem painted on the roof of it(his wife probably drew the line at having one on the house roof:D). Secondly, he's built a go-kart track in his lot, they're out there most Sundays, just zooming around. We're trying to think up ways to go over for a visit.

iomegajaz 14th January 2004 03:12

Get naked - I'm sure he'd be willing to take you for a ride.

When I was in kindergarden one of the other kids brought in some transformers. I wanted transformers soo bad after that.

a really good friend ended up getting me optimus prime and ultra magnus for christmas this year

but this thread isnt the what did you want and ended up getting thread.... so what toy did I always want but never did get?

when I was in third grade I wanted one of those stupid circitry kits from radio shack. I wanted one of those for a long time so my mom went out and got me this "build a working helicopter out of balsa wood" kit. I wanted to mess around with electricty, not exacto knives

missyob 14th January 2004 12:29

I always wanted an easy bake oven but my mom would not get it for me. She said I would hurt myself with it.

Now how can one hurt themselves with an oven that runs on a lightbulb?

I am still scarred for not getting that oven. My therapist said it will still take years to overcome this. :)

**Note to self: Buy Missy an Easy Bake Oven and a lifetime supply of light bulbs for it. Cheap light bulbs, so they'll need changing really often.**

;)

I feel old. Transformers? GameCubes? Aquabots? We didn't any of those things when I grew up. If fact, all we had to play with was dirt. But it was cool. When it rained we could make cool things out of mud clods.

But then later in my childhood, they invented Legos (the basic blocks...we didn't have those fancy, new-fangled "custom sets"), Erector Sets, Tinkertoys, Green Plastic Army Men, Etch-A-Sketches, G.I. Joes, Playdough, and HotWheels cars (with the plastic track segments that could also be used to beat each other with).

I guess the only things I always wanted and never got was a full-scale model of the USS Enterprise aircraft carrier and some TNT to add "realism" to the Green Plastic Army Men wars. And a BB gun. Kept hearing "You'll put an eye out with it!"

You are so adorable.

I can relate to you Scor on the whole toy thing. We did not have all these video games, computers, and electronic gadgets that they have now.

One of my favorite toys were Linkin Logs. I built some really cool houses with them. We used to use our imagination with toys growing up. In my cellar we had big boxes (refrigerator size ones). We built a little city with the boxes and our friends would come over and play with us. Each box was a house and we would all decorate our houses, we made play money out of paper, we had a pretend restraunt and movie theater. It was all stuff that we used our imaginations and creativity for. I directly relate all of that to helping me be a problem solving person now.

Oh yeah! I completely forgot about Linkin Logs. I loved those! The Green Plastic Army Men needed barracks, you know. ;)

And you are so right about how growing up before computers encouraged imagination. We could do so much with so little. Not that I think we're "better" than the younger folk that were born in the PC era, but it was just a different time. Kids today can definitely get more done with PCs for education and entertainment, but there's a lot to be said for the nostalgia of a "simpler existence".

I always thought the little umbrellas were so cool. Hey wait, I still love them! There is a japanese restaraunt near my house that serves them in your drinks. I always save mine and bring them home. Do you live in the states? I could mail you some! :D

iomegajaz 15th January 2004 23:42

DJ Theodis is in British Columbia, if I'm not mistaken.

Same here, although I grew up at a time when the Transformers had beast modes instead of the cars and stuff, made of plastic ( :p ) and I wanted Optimus Primal...

Mrs_Mia_Wallace 18th January 2004 13:29

I didn't really have many toys when until I was 5 because I have lived in East Germany and the Wall was still up...but after it fell my parents bought me just about everyhting I wanted since they were so happy that they were able to do it, yes I was a spoiled child because of that but I realized shortly after that material things are not all they're cracked up to be...

Mia:)

I think a lot of people who were spoiled as kids feel that way.

I was spoiled with material things too, as an only child, but ever since I grew up I came to realize I'd give up everything for a good friend.

sgtfuzzbubble011 20th January 2004 00:55

@ Shy
Ya never know, they might be relatives. :D At any rate, they sound like my kind of people. Anyone with dump trucks, heavy equipment, giant Chevy logos, and a go kart track on their property is ok by me. :D

@ DrO
I LOVE the Lego backhoe! That's just friggin' awesome. And it looks a lot like the real one that I have at work. :D
