Links to Tens of Thousands of Legal Music Downloads

You can enjoy free music without getting into trouble by downloading the legal music that many artists provide as a way to promote themselves. But it can be hard to find, and it's hard to know what's good without actually downloading and listening to it all.

My article Links to Tens of Thousands of Legal Music Downloads helps you find the best music downloads.

Besides explaining how to get free music legally, my article explores the history of US copyright law, and suggests steps you can take to make sharing any file legal.

My name really is Michael Crawford. That other guy changed his name for the stage.

Although I have been known to sing, my voice is long out of practice. I play the piano though. If you'd like to listen to some of my compositions, visit www.GeometricVisions.com

Ever Faithful,

Mike

Cylob,

What happens when you try it? Or are you using a machine which is unsupported?

iRATE 0.3 is coming along sometime soon. I'm not real sure when but I expect it will be in the next couple weeks. Give the new version a try when it becomes available.

Very well written.
I write to my congressman at least once every two months. I also make every effort to engage prospective political candidates on my views of the music industry.

Keep up the good work! :D

I'll try 0.3 then. What happens is the dloads get stuck at around 5% (without any good reason).

I still like the concept, this type of thing is the future. No middle-men or expensive manufacturing... just the artists and the listeners.:)

If you're willing to tolerate a little temporary bugginess, a big way you could help out would be to try out either the testing or unstable builds of iRATE and see how they work.

The testing version is what is expected to become 0.3, but is not yet considered ready for release. But it's good enough to have regular people try out. Unstable is bleeding edge, what will go into testing after it's been tried out for a while.

It's quite likely that your problem has already been fixed, but if it hasn't it's important for the iRATE developers to know about. Maybe there's something special about your particular setup that stimulates a bug.

If you do want to help test, you can either email me your results at crawford@goingware.com or subscribe to the irate-devel mailing list and send your reports there.

iRATE radio 0.3 has been released. I've been testing it, and I can promise it's vastly better than 0.2 was. Get it from http://irate.sourceforge.net/

The Mac version is not quite ready yet, but if you want to test the beta, it's available in the unstable downloads section of iRATE's site.
