LS1 vs. Evo VIII: Oh how the mighty have fallen
Came aross an interesting topic off the C&D forums, linking to the LS1 forums, about a long-previous Camaro Z28 owner won over by the Mitubishi Lancer Evo VIII after a short test drive...General car enthusiasts may see the equals in both cars, but I'm sure the V8 guys will have a grumble towards the guy...This'll entertain any car guys here... :D
http://www.ls1.com/forums/showthread...hreadid=455392 |
To each their own, but I'll say that the maintenance cost that guy is going to have a little bit later on will probably more than take up for the better gas milage...
And this part isn't a comparison of the vehicles, but more of my experience in them: Last year, I drove a Mitsubishi Eclipse. Nothing special, but it had a high-flow intake, big exhaust, and a 5-speed. I was test driving it for a friend of mine that was thinking about buying it. The car rode nice, was actually quite fun to drive, had short throws between the gears, and had tight steering. I suggested to my friend that she might like the car and should seriously consider buying it. (She didn't because of financial reasons that arose, though.) But after that test drive, I got back in my S10 and remembered just how much I love it. That little car made my S10 feel big, bulky, and bad-handling... but that's how I like it. Even though that Eclipse could beat my truck through the slalom, my truck could stomp it on the dragstrip. I like the rumble and grunt of a big American engine over the high-winding shrill of a small Japanese engine any day. It's a personal preference thing, anyways. And if I had to choose between a speed boat and a barge, you'd better believe I'd take the barge. |
Ford F350 six wheel diesel is all i have to say.

Evo VII's and Evo VIII's are legendary among street-modders.
Not many cars a modified E36 M3 has to fear, but a modded late-gen Mitsu Evo is one of them. They scare me more than Viper GTS's. Mainly because I witnessed a bored-over Viper owner get his ass handed to him by a tweaked Evo VII. Going in a straight line, even. Other than that, I wouldn't have one because they're butt-fugly. :igor: |
doesn't matter about a race. get a truck and run over them. then we'll see where all the money in making it fast went. and personally, i'd rather be in the pickup when it hits a regular car
|
The truck has to catch the fast car before it can run over it. ;)
And I'd rather be in my M3 when there's an impending collision. I can turn at almost 1 g. That means I can easily avoid big clumsy trucks (or almost anything else heavier than me). (No offense to truck fans...I love trucks too. :) ) |
The Nissan 350Z has similar power and handling for about the same price range. Gonna get my Z soon. =) I've seen a Z with 380CHP N/A. Just 15HP shy of a Modena with the same size engine. Can't wait for the aftermarket to flare up :)
BTW the EVO looks like crap, would rather have an STi. |
i'm with k_rock923, my dream vehicle is a dodge ram 3500 with the turbo diesel V12 jacked way up on huge 44 inch tires

/me has to live with his Ford Focus a while ... :(

And of course!

If you were in Europe, you would pick absolutely different cars just because of the price of fuel...(still being into the sports car); 2liters engine is simply enough for a smaller car, if you know how to mod it. And my upper limit is let's say 3,5liters V6 enigne - BMW preferably...
V12 is just for rednecks... |

EDIT-after a quick(really quick) search, the dodge site mentions only the V8 Hemi and the I6 diesel in an '04 Ram 3500 |
i think it was the older ram's that had the diesel V12's
|
They never had V-12 diesels. They have a V-10 gas-burner, though. Ford also has a V-10 gas-burner. Dodge offers the I-6 Cummins diesel that BMWboy mentioned, while Ford offers a couple V-8 diesels (same engines, just different displacements I believe). And GM also offers a V-8 diesel in their fulls-size trucks. Anyways, I'm not going to get too deep into this subject as it's a bit off from the original topic of the thread...

There are Honda Civics in this world that can take out a Porsche 996 GT2. Never underestimate what can be done with a very light car and a healthy modification budget. Hence, the popularity of the Mitsubishi Evo's as well. (Same's true for the ZX3, as a matter of fact.) That's why Corvettes, for instance, have a lot of trouble keeping up with many top-modded compact cars. And some stock ones, even. ;) |
hey, don't be making fun of the vette! i love that car. espcially a nice '68 one. *drools*
|
Oh, trust me, I'm not making fun of the Corvette. I love them. They're a (the?) hallmark of American performance cars.
I'd like to have a split-window '63, personally. I've wanted one for years. http://www.dragers.com/dgc2589/dgc2589.html |
