Autocue in Media Library
Please implement Wincue (www.wincue.org) like autocue feature for standard winamp media library. I like media library a lot more than wincue but now I have to use both for the autocue feature. Would be nice to have that feature built in.
|
When you ask for features please explain what the fuck they are too instead of just giving a name. Thanks.

what i think he meant was that when you reach the end of the playlist, winamp should be able to auto enqueue a random song from the media library.
and that would be a very useful function in my opinion |
ilajt: thats exactly what i meant.

Hmm.. Unless Nullsoft plan to make this themselves, maybe some more people would be interested in a separate AutoCue plug-in for Winamp?
I'm not too sure how to make this, yet, but I assume it would be useful if I could just add AutoCue functionality on top of the buildt-in Media Library? If enough peolpe are interested I might be willing to do this, as I release many people like the WinCue AutoCue feature but would prefer to use the buildt-in Media Library as they find it more integrated with Winamp. |

Exactly what?
|
did I hear something about cue sheets?!
eh. cue-sheet support in the media library and winamp would be oh-so-sweet |
No, not really, AutoCue is a feature I made for WinCue some time back which automatically adds random songs to the playlist whenever you're too lazy to do it yourself.
|
why the hell don't you just install wincue, enable autocue, and then not show the window? same thing.
only thing to be gained by having anders make an autocue plugin would be if you could restrict cues to the currently selected media view and any search criteria that are in it. if you add those limits, then it might be useful, but if it's doing the whole library then i don't see a difference. and you know, it's ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. believe it or not, i seriously cannot bring myself to buy an ipod because even with the queueing on the fly feature that was added to the third generation, i can't fathom paying that much money for an audio playback device that doesn't have a feature as simple and smart as autocue. if i'm going to have a player without autocue, it's going to be a cheap ass flash player, not a top-of-the-line pod. |
If you haven't already you oughta check out Longplayer in the plugins section. http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details.php?id=116245
It keeps track of recently played songs to avoid playing the same song more than once, and it has ratings for people who use ratings. You can set it to enqueue however many songs you want at a time and leave it in the system tray. I've been moving my files from alphabetical folders to genre folders & LongPlayer has kept up with me on its own. Once you set your directories (Playlists) you can change them via a dropdown menu. |

I could make the plug-in customizable in such a way that you could set up how significant each of these factors where. This way you could get much better "randomness" than what AutoCue offers today, because it wouldn't be totally random. For instance you could tell it to favour top rated songs and songs added to the library within the last week, but every now and then you might want it to throw in an old classic you haven't heard in while (but which has been played a lot in the past). The Winamp Media Library currently offers a lot more metadata on the items than WinCeu does. As some poeple have suggested they would prefer to keep on using the Winamp Media Library as they feel it's more advanced. That's why I came up with the idea of a separate plug-in. Quote:

Anders, I'm glad you're into this. I've used Wincue since 1.31, long before we had a media library to help with database mgmt. I only switched to LongPlayer recently because the previous Wincue 1.40 beta (not the newest one) was sometimes playing the same song more than once in the same day.
I would wholeheartedly be into a library-based autoenqueue. I prefer autocue to shuffle because you can see what's coming and see what's played on the playlist, and it leaves room in the pledit to add a song if you want to hear a non-random song next. So if the plugin you have in mind could use recently played info and ratings to determine what does/doesn't get enqueued, could it also be possible to enqueue all from albums or all by artists? I would love that. My portable has an option to shuffle albums & I've gotten hooked on the feature. |
Yeah, somethin like autocueing albums you mean? That would be cool I guess, and not too hard to implement either (given that I figure out how to do this in the first place... :))
|
That's what I mean, like the autocueing plugin could be set to enqueue single songs, or every song with x in the ID3 artist field, or every song with x in the album field, like with the "play all file by/from" right-click option in the ML but randomized. That would make me one happy camper. :)

ok, ok, now i'm starting to see the point. objections withdrawn.
i think you oughta consider having several different sets of preferences, and make them easily accessible (ie not under "configure plugin" etc). that way we could choose "jazz autocue" "new additions autocue" "top rated autocue" etc with the click of a mouse |
Yes, I was planning on adding an AutoCue item to the Media Library tree view as well as an AutoCue properties page in the regular winamp config dialog.

Update on LongPlayer. I noticed over a couple of days my desktop and explorer acted buggy with LP installed. I've gone back to Wincue. :) Browsing the version history: It's really come a long way since 1.35, and 1.35 was nice. The search list tooltips are a real asset.
