is there a new form of 1337?

so sometimes when i play my online games... people are always saying stuff like "leh, haiz, lah..." etc

What the hell is it? And why is it so "cool"?

it seems like the stupidest sh*t ever... can't people just speak english in a cohertant form?

xzxzzx 2nd February 2004 20:09

I don't get it.

Kinetik* 2nd February 2004 20:12

It's almost as stupid as bleeping out the vowels in curse words like it's somehow less offensive.

xzxzzx 2nd February 2004 20:19

Hey, f*ck you, Kinetik*.

Actually, people that find curse words offensive should find the censored versions less offensive, right? I mean, it doesn't make sense in the first place, so...

Kinetik* 2nd February 2004 20:27

You would think that they would actually find it more offensive. The * stands out to the eye, so the viewer is drawn to the 'f*ck'. It's like instead of being subtle, it's emphasized.

xzxzzx 2nd February 2004 20:42

Yeah, but what about "Hey, **** you, Kinetik*"?

Doesn't that stand out even more?

Kinetik* 2nd February 2004 20:45

That leaves it up to the imagination. Could be fuck, could be love. Could be rape...

Phff. Whatever. It being offensive is stupid. So there.

Smeggle 2nd February 2004 23:32

J_Bloggs 3rd February 2004 04:59

"1337" actually makes some level of sense, but what the fuck is "leh, haiz, lah" ???.

I don't know what your problem with this is - I personally enjoy being drawn to the 'f*ck'.

So to speak.

xzxzzx 3rd February 2004 07:17

What the? Hugh, stop changing your god damn name! =P

"Alumnus"

mrharhar 3rd February 2004 16:29

I live in Singapore and know the answer to this! Well perhaps.

People here afix 'lah' to any sentance. "But I'm not 1337, lah!"
Execpt they dont say 1337. What servers do you play your games on? Asian ones?

Paultx 3rd February 2004 17:02

Now, WTF is 1337?

Kinetik* 3rd February 2004 18:37

1337 = LEET = Elite

It's a hacker-type language. Using 3's for E's, 4's for A's, 7's for T's, 1's for L's.. etc etc etc.

It's good comically, but people actually take it too far and talk with it normally. It's gh3y^max

dlinkwit27 3rd February 2004 19:12

It's not a new form of 1337, it's just that game's vocabulary, their jargon if you will. Every game has it. In starcraft when I played new players were n00bs, but when I switched to play AOE, new players were rooks. Same meaning, different slang.

horse-fly 3rd February 2004 19:39

it was all over GunBound Servers...

Phff. Stupid cliche phrases. The only cool, unique "new player" phrase I've heard is "neg". 50 points and some Oreos for anyone who can point out the origin of "neg".

dlinkwit27 3rd February 2004 20:16

neg = new gamer

xzxzzx 3rd February 2004 20:48

dlinkwit: Nope, but that's a good guess.
