streaming a bunch of "on demand .mp3 files" at once

How would I go about streaming a bunch of .mp3's that I have put in the /content directory one after another? Do I need to creat a playlist and refer to it within the config file or something of that sort? I am running the server on a unix box.

Thanks in advance.

you will need to setup a playlist and post it on a real web server.

Otherwise check out www.radiotoolbox.com/mp3toolbox/ Warning mp3 toolbox does NOT use shoutcast. It uses the webserver instead.

There is no way to get shoutcast to stream a playlist on demand?

Somebody told me to use linux transcoders.. But I have no clue what those are.

I still dont understand... If for example I need to stream one.mp3, two.mp3 and three.mp3 within one stream, one after the next... How would I accomplish this with on demand?

FesterHead 9th February 2004 16:48

Create a playlist consisting of the songs and put it (the playlist) on a webserver.

I wanna use shoutcast to stream this though at a certain bit rate... 56kbps to be exact :0

if you are talking about sourcing the shoutcast server then you would not use the content directory, you would need a seperate program to source SHOUTcast (i.e. winamp or sc_trans_linux)

gen031 9th February 2004 22:40

Where could I read up on "sc_trans_linux" and can you briefly explain what exactly it does... Thanks so much, I do appriciate all the help and support you guys have provided so far.

go to the www.shoutcast.com download section and click "Be a DJ" and you will see DSP encoder for Linux Freebsd and MacOSX

download that utility and put the appropriate image on the machine you want to source from.

All the info you need is in the sc_trans.config and playlist.lst files.

Thanks buddy, I'll give that a try!

Hi,

I'm kinda having the same problem.

I want to create a playlist that will stream 3 (or more) mp3 files on demand

I have put all the files in the content folder.

I can do this with a single file, for example, to call a file called test.mp3 i enter http://myip:myport/content_directory/test.pls

and that plays the test.mp3 file

ok, say test2.mp3 is in the same folder, how do i get it to stream test.mp3 and then test2.mp3 ?

please help!

thanks guys

ONdemand content from the content directory using a DNAS is one item at a time.

Fix:
Quote:

Create a playlist consisting of the songs and put it (the playlist) on a webserver.

omega1 27th February 2004 22:23

hi,

IT IS on a webserver, my own webserver...

does this mean the .pls file can't be on the same machine?

please be a bit more specific for the dumb people!

thanks again
