Using AVS as animated desktop.

Through the FAQ's here I learned how to set AVS as a animated desktop. Very nice !
However I have one question about it and I hope you can answer this.
When I use this option I always have the AVS in the Winamp window as well, altough I can detach it and have a separate window with the AVS. But I always have the AVS twice, as desktop background AND as small window in or outside Winamp.
Is it also possible to have the AVS ONLY as desktop background, so without the separate window, and if so how do I do that ? Of course it is possible to set the AVS fullscreen, but this is not what I mean.

No. You can't eliminate the avs window without taking out the desktop effect aswell. You can always minimize winamp (the avs desktop still remains), but seems like you don't want that.

Thanks Tuggummi,
No that is not what I want. I would like to have Winamp on my desktop with AVS only as animated background. But that is not possible like you said. Ok.k. I can live with that...

a very unelegant method of hiding the avs window is to move it out of sight.

the window position is saved in the winamp.ini

[AVS]
wx=bla
wy=bla

You could just drag it off the screen.

if you are running xp and on modern skins... you can alpha blend avs out to 10%...

or go to settings and alphablend it all the way out

Don't start messing around with .ini's
Just minimize WA

@hungryskull:
When I drag it offscreen, how can I get it back when needed ?

anubis2003 16th February 2004 19:50

edit the winamp.ini file to use initial window position that is back on the desktop.

btw. I wonder, how were you actually going to switch between presets if your avs window is "out of the way"? ;)

Ton 17th February 2004 17:03

Tuggummi, I assume you asked me. If I understand your question right you mean, how I should be able to switch the presets when I got rid of the AVS window.
If so, well I don't need to switch when I choose "all" under Settings in the AVS editor to play randomly all presets.

If you leave a little bit of the border of avs visible, you can click that to select it, and then select presets by pressing "u" and "i".

So you don't need to edit them. Then I'd go for minimizing WinAmp. AVS overlay stays active.
