Problem With Playing Media

Ok, when I go to play any of my media files, I get an error message that says "error creating writer". What does this mean and how can I fix it?

At a guess, go to:
Prefs (Ctrl+P) -> Plugins -> Output
and select one of WaveOut (Win9x) or DirectSound (Win2k/XP) Output
instead of DiskWriter Output
