Winamp crashes with clear playlist
I'm running Winamp 5.02 on AMD 2800+ never had any problems with it, until I installed a new harddisk..
Winamp is the only program which has problems after installing it, so far I have only found out that it crashes on clicking the Clear Playlist button... It doesn't matters what's in the playlist and I reinstalled winamp a few times. No effect. It keeps crashing and crashing when clicking the button. Can anyone help me with this problem ? It seems that no-1 can help me with it.. :( pity..

Well, no-one has ever reported this happening before, so we will need more info if we are to help you any further.
Have you tried a clean install? What is the pc or motherboard make/model? What is your Windows OS? How does the new drive fit into the equation? Which drive is Windows installed on? Which drive is Winamp installed on? What's the drive letter allocation of the new drive? What type of hard drives are they? All the same make/model/speed? Are they all running in Ultra DMA mode? Are they all formatted in NTFS or FAT32? Can you provide any details of the crash? Any error messages? Any crash logs from Windows / Event Manager? Are you logged on to an administator account, or a limited user account? Have you made sure that no files in the Winamp dir are "read only", in particular: winamp.ini, studio.xnf, winamp.m3u The current playlist is stored in winamp.m3u, so maybe there's a problem clearing it? (ie. when attempting to delete its textual contents) Does Winamp only crash if you click: List button > New Playlist? ie. it doesn't crash if you select any of the other options under the Manage Playlist / List button? (eg. open playlist / open playlist from...) What skin are you using? Installed any extra 3rd-party plugins? A StartUpList log might also prove useful (direct download) Provide this info and, if a clean install doesn't help, then we may be able to help you further. |
What is the pc or motherboard make/model?
Motherboard: Asus A7N8X v2.0 Deluxe What is your Windows OS? Windows XP Corporate Edition NL How does the new drive fit into the equation? Good Which drive is Windows installed on? Are they all running in Ultra DMA mode? yes Are they all formatted in NTFS or FAT32? c: NTFS g: NTFS Can you provide any details of the crash? It happens 2 or 3 secs after I clicked the Clear Playlist button... Music keeps playing, winamp isn't responding anymore... Any error messages? No, none from winamp itself Any crash logs from Windows / Event Manager? Yes, a long one, if you want I can mail it to you Are you logged on to an administator account, or a limited user account? Admin account Have you made sure that no files in the Winamp dir are "read only", in particular: winamp.ini, studio.xnf, winamp.m3u Yes, everything is readable The current playlist is stored in winamp.m3u, so maybe there's a problem clearing it? (ie. when attempting to delete its textual contents) I just import the music from the ML, it also happens when I open a playlist and when the winamp demo song is in it Does Winamp only crash if you click: List button > New Playlist? ie. it doesn't crash if you select any of the other options under the Manage Playlist / List button? (eg. open playlist / open playlist from...) Yes, tried it all What skin are you using? Modern skin, Monodark Installed any extra 3rd-party plugins? Yes, Samurize vis plug, lyrix 1.0.0.28, gappless plug... |
Okay, so can you confirm whether the problem still occurs if you remove those 3rd-party plugins?
ie. with Winamp closed, go to the Winamp\Plugins dir and add .off to the end of the relevant filenames, eg. gen_lyrix.dll.off I noticed the "..." at the end. Does this mean there's more? btw, you don't need a 3rd-party gapless output plugin. If the problem persists, then I still recommend a clean install (as a last resort). If it still persists, then yes, the crash report and a startuplist will be required. You can zip them up and attach them to a new post (Attachment feature available c/o Post A Reply button). Also, I'm not sure of the relevance, but here is a similar case where Samurize config was the cause of the crash. |
verry strange.. all of a sudden, after 3 times doing a full clean install, and system reboot it was working :p
Don't really get why it happend after those 3 times  But thanks for the help , you guys rock :D Ciao, -ET |
