what is the point of a concert? are live shows boring?

i think concerts are boring. what does everyone else think?

ive been to about 10 concerts, and theyre always the same: u stand around waiting for about 2 1/2 hours for the band to come on stage, then when they finally do come on, they just run through songs which u already know for about an hour and a half, then thats it. i am getting bored of concerts, especially the way ive got to shell out about $80 for each show.

u see, in the old days, when there was no way to record material, live performances were essential. but whats the point of live shows now? i guess most of the fun is just the novelty of seeing ur heroes live in person. which raises another question for me...would u rather see a live concert of your favourite band, or meet them in person?

you have been to some seriously shitty concerts apparently.

EnDurA 25th February 2004 06:35

dude, how could u say that about live concerts?

there's so much raw energy, its a totally awesome experiance to go to a live concert

btw, shouldn't this be in music o'rama?

kris_man 25th February 2004 06:49

yeah , it should be in music o'rama, i f***ed it up. anyway, ill tell u all the concerts ive been to: the tea party, pearl jam twice, ben harper twice, red hot chili peppers, jewel, garbage, pc3, creed, john mayer, homebake, counting crows. they werent completely boring, some were amazing, especially pearl jam and tea party. its just that....there was nothing that i didnt expect. predictable, i think thats a good word.

I love concerts; of course the kind I go to, everyone sits silent, and its more about the music than the "energy" or the "physicality".

IMHO An act should sound it's best in live concert; otherwise it indicates a serious problem.

I hate concerts where the audience feels the need to sing along with the band.

I came to hear the band not the drunk bitch standing next to me

Yes true, this is why bands like "Busted", "The Tart... ..erm Spice Girls" and "Hear'bog off you sad tone deaf freaks'say", are crap live.
If there is no talent, then a live show will flop, nomater how meny people are payed to scream and dance.

Not that you have bad taste or anything, but maybe you're listening to music you don't really like?

kris_man 26th February 2004 06:13

i LOVE the bands that i saw live, such as pearl jam, ben harper, the tea party, john mayer, red hot chili peppers, creed.these are some of my favourite bands, life wouldn't be the same without them, its just that there's nothing i heard at the concerts that i could not hear on the CD's, apart from the fact that the songs may have been played slightly differently, and the guys sometimes talked between the songs.

Look at it this way: If you find more pleasure in looking at the pictures of a porn star rather than having the actual chance to see her naked/have sex with her, then you're fucked up... :D :p
