Hello, I need an MP3 player for Real files..

Hello, this is my first post.

I did a search and it looks like Ipod can play Real Media files (correct?)...are there any other MP3 players that can do that?

Thanks for your time.

No, the iPod can not play real media files.

From iPod.com:
Quote:

Audio formats supported: AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 (32 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible, AIFF (Mac only) and WAV
I doubt if there are any hardware players that play Real media files.

GqSkrub: Let's see you use the search page first and find something on the topic.

jakeledel 26th February 2004 02:42

i don't know of anything that can play real files. i researched a lot before i got my ipod. keep looking, there's gotta be something out there.

GqSkrub 26th February 2004 04:03

Winamp is an MP3 player(software) that can play real files

If you want to listen to Real files on hardware you can check this out

happy reaper?

He/She mentions the iPod; I don't quite think they are talking about a software player.

You shouldn't try to edit a post to make yourself look good in the face of defeat.:)

heheheh... after i posted it i reread my post (as all good posters do) and realized he might be looking for hardware so i proceeded to do another search. You replied too quick. Nonetheless i have used the search key 'for him today. now it's his time to use it for himself from now on.

Stop bickering or I'll bitch slap both of ya. ;) :D

We should be steering him away from Real (and all it's evilness) and convincing him to use a good media format anyway.

Boycott Real!

Well, I hope you do the bitch-slapping with your cane ;)

Seriously, randman is right. There are so many good formats for compressed music, why you would choose real over them is beyond me. Besides, the only use I've ever had for real files are record samples on on-line stores, I have yet to find someone that would encode entire albums to real. This is just silly.

Coman 26th February 2004 19:07

Real media should die!!!!!
And you're with it if you use it!!

Convert whatever you have to other format like mp3 and buy a cool mp3 player.

arctanx 26th February 2004 20:57

Thanks for the replies, I was talking about a hardware player though, not software...but yes Real Player sucks! I have some files I downloaded that I thought I could find something to play both MP3 and Real, oh well looks like I'll be converting. Peace!

LollipopLustKil 26th February 2004 21:28

Yeah, just convert. Next time, take a few extra minutes and find the mp3 version of the file, instead of saving time and killing the file.

Bilbo Baggins 26th February 2004 21:43

Am I the only one who feels that an MP3 player is different from a Real media player?

Surely the guy means a jukebox...

whiteflip 26th February 2004 22:59

i shall bestow upon Gq the [edit][/edit] tags. anything within these tags can be taken as a second posting without posting. adding information to your previous post that you forgot to add and so forth. all of those on these forums know the concept of the edit tag.

[edit]I almost forgot. Real Player audio files suck. Re encode into 320kbps MP3 if you want wide spread hard ware compatibility. Don't buy a player that plays the files.[/edit]

eleet-2k2 29th February 2004 21:54

1) Real audio is a proprietary format, and it's format innerworkings are not widely known.
2) MP3 is popular and a fair compression, lossy format.
3) Real is bloat and sucks.
4) They call it an mp3 player for a reason, b/c it generally plays mp3 files (and wav and other open standard files).
5) Dont use real!

Raz 29th February 2004 22:56

I shall never know.

Google probably does.
