If you have a dynamic IP, you can get a static name at www.no-ip.com.

hemorrhoid 27th February 2004 08:57

then my ip would stay the same..thanks

hope this is easy to use.

hemorrhoid 27th February 2004 09:06

Well, start broadcasting, and let someone here test the host to see if it works.

hemorrhoid 27th February 2004 09:49

i alsodownloaded some no-ip DUC..sum updater.

hmmm i cant connect the shoutcast server..im getting this,

<02/27/04@05:50:50> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave invalid id
<02/27/04@05:50:52> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave invalid id
<02/27/04@05:50:53> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave invalid id
<02/27/04@05:50:58> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave invalid id

this is more than likely related to the "YP is Broken" post shown above this forum. Additionally if you don't know how to use no-ip.com ask them or search their help. We don't know much about it ourself.

I am on high speed cable internet and I'm running a FTP server and a HTTP (web) server from my pc using NO-IP. If you can't figure it out I'll try to help. Just shoot me an email @ johnny@masterpatton.com

No-IP is a Dynamic DNS Service Provider. What this means is, that you can pick a name for yourself, tack it onto their domain name, attach your IP address, and they will advertise that name and IP address to the public names servers.

Since your real ip address sometimes changes, you need to verify they have the current ip address registered, or run a little software to constantly watch your ip, and their setting for your ip, and to kick off an update if the addresses mismatch.

So, what you have to do now is monitor your IP address at no-ip.com or run a tool to do that for you.

I use DynDns.org to advertise my address, and DeeEnEss to update my account there.

updateing my IP with no-ip.com..am i still going to have to change my listen.pls link for shoutcast? or will my listen link always stay the same from now on becuz ill be updating thru no-ip?

qbix 27th February 2004 19:02

your link to listen will now be something like

nameyoulike.no-ip.com:8000/listen.pls

hemorrhoid 27th February 2004 21:23

ok great..so that will be my link ALL the time now? and it wont change?

protegechris 27th February 2004 21:32

yes, but your IP will still change. But you will still have to run a program to monitor your IP, and to Up-date No-IP.
