Why can't we delete are own posts?

I couldn't find the answers searching the forums or reading the rules so i ask now: why can't we delete our own posts? I know the answer is PM a mod and they will erase it for you? but is difficult to limit the power of deleting to only your own posts or something?

I think that it would lead to a lot of confusion especially if the posts deleted before the mods saw it were insulting ones...I think that if mods delete things like this they go into an evidence locker so they can look at it ad decide what to do backstage...

But then again, editing as well can confuse the meaning of a whole thread - but taking that away would mean living with myriads of spelling mistakes and non owrking links, images etc....(not that we already do ;) )

I was going to say that as well but correcting someone's spelling mistake in a language that's not my native one would be kind of weird, since I do make unintentional mistakes as well :D

Yeah, but not confusing vague phoenetic equivalents.

yeah, deleting should be optional on the conditon that if someone has replied, you can only edit.

Really the only thing that needs to be done is the option to delete for people who aren't mods should be removed - it confuses way too many people when they see that checkbox but it doesn't work.
