Turning Off Visualizations!

Hi

I love WinAmp 5.02... Sorry, but screw all of those "other" versions and other media players.. Junk, all of them. In fact, WinAmp 2 & 3 should be dumped so you jokers can spend all of your time perfecting 5! Anything less is like kissing cousin... you both may like it, but that doesn't make it right!

Anyway.. I want to reduce the CPU utilization when I can.

I've tried everything to get visualizations to be disabled, but every time I play a new song, they spring right back into action.

I'm sure there will be those psychotic days... um.. I mean psychedelic.. yeah..that's it, psychedelic days when I'll want the visualizations so I can stare at the funky squiggles and go all goofy, but most of the time, I'm too busy typing away, running huge databases or downloading gigabytes of porn and pirated mp3’s to worry about that kind of thing.

My question: HOW DO I TURN OFF THE VISUALIZATIONS, UNTIL I'M READY TO TURN THEM ON AGAIN?

The only solution that I could find, was to actually delete them, which, I did! :) Oddly enough, it still opens the "Video" window every time I play an audio file, even though there are no visualizations to show!

Suggestions and the right way to DISABLE visualizations UNTIL I TURN THEM BACK ON is appreciated.

Steph
P.S. I looked through the search field first, but when I found similar subjects where I could have replied to get my answer, they were all turned off, hence the new semi-facetious message.

P.P.S. For you bastards at the RIAA, I don’t pirate music! porn? Hell Yes! But not music.

Thanks for your... er, colorful post. :)

The vis problem shouldn't happen. What visualization plugin were you using?

Well, Nullsoft has axed development of Winamp3, rebranded it as Wasabi.Player, and all but made it open-source (they've released the source code for a lot of the WACs). Winamp5 is really a continuation of the 2.xx line, they could have called it Winamp 2.96 or some such numbering, but they did so much (like Modern Skin Support and the new ML) that they decided to start another version number (I personally wouldn't want Winamp 2.99.71 anyways ;))

As for porn... well, that industry isn't as anal (absolutely no pun intended ever) as the record industry.

Preferences (Press Ctrl+P) -> 'Plug-ins' -> uncheck 'Auto execute visualization plug-in on playback'.

Skin in Question

Well, I've just downloaded like 20 new skins, but the skin in question is the DEFAULT 5.02 SKIN! WinAmp Modern.

Like I said, I deleted all of my visualizations to get the issue to stop, so I'll have to figure out how to re-install them to test the issue with other skins!

Click the vis area twice (until the vis is gone)

Complete idiot for running something other than Winamp? I think not. I use a combination of Winamp 5 and Foobar2000. Depends on what mood I'm in. Personally, I think Foobar2000 is a better player than Winamp because it supports more than Winamp. Such as APEv2 tags, almost any audio format natively, and ReplayGain. The only thing Foobar2000 lacks is skins so it has a pretty basic look to it. But if you want features, Foobar2000 is your program. I also love Winamp 5. I think it is the best Winamp ever. I just want to see ReplayGain and APEv2 tagging included in it someday and I'll be 100% satisfied. For the time being Otachan's mpg123 MP3 plug-in for Winamp 2 & 5 suits me just fine :) It supports ReplayGain tagged by Foobar2000 in ID3v2 or APEv2 tags and reads APEv2 tags. It can edit ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags with mp3infp.

Like it was already said: [ctrl]+P -> Plug-Ins -> Turn off "Auto execute visualization plug-in on playback"

and IT IS THIS WAY so if it doesn't work for you reinstall winamp and/or remove any third party pseudo-plugins (I call those little hax0r things pseudo when they just bring trouble :p).

For now take this and call me in the morning:
