A car built by girls for girls

Oh dear indeed....

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/3528757.stm

...an interesting idea, although features like coin and key holders are already present in my car; and I like the idea of easier replacable interior decor, for quick replacement if worn, or washing if dirty...

but, er, not being able to easily check engine oil level or coolant level. Erm, er, yes... If they insist...

Merlin 6th March 2004 17:35

designed by girls. If it was built by them, it'd go forward when you selected reverse :p

*cracks jokes about the car being impossible to park, failing to work once a month, etc

Seriously though, those doors are horribly impractical, and it's not pretty.

eleet-2k2 6th March 2004 17:46

Wow! That's horribly ugly. Lol. They've designed it to look like a Porsche, kinda, then beat it with the ugly stick. ;) j/k but it's not looking good.

Coin holders and such already exist in my car as well. Electronic gauges for engine oil levels and coolant levels exist also, provided by at least Mitsubishi in their trucks, so some cars already have them or will be getting them soon.

I also like the idea of the easily swappable interior for cleaning/replacement, that would be so much cheaper than having a dealer do it or a private body shop.

Mrs_Mia_Wallace 6th March 2004 17:48

I have already heard about that...I don't like the car at all, the front looks ugly, and come on, I don't drive but I knew that I would feel lost not even being able to look under the hood for myself, I'd definitely not paying a mechanic for small stuff that I could easily repair myself!

And having a hole in the headrest for women who drive with a ponytail? Come on, it wouldn't be that much of trouble to open it up or make it lower...strange idea but still funny, I might go and check it out with the other car at the Geneva auto salon since I'll be close to Geneva next week anywhere, I migh meet Doktor there as well, let's see if we can work this out ;) Well take apicture in front of that woman car then :p

Mia:)

Dark Ninja 6th March 2004 19:12

what the hell are they thinkin,

zootm 6th March 2004 19:21

lots of good design ideas, a lot of practicality. don't like the look though.

dark ninja, sentences end in a full stop. although who am i to talk, they begin with a capital. :blah:

I can tell you: let's design a car for some women stereotype - and somehow they didn't succeed because all of my girlfriends do not like that car, either they are not the target group or I don't know...it's plain ugly and not practical...

I'm a woman and I'd much rather go with a car like this:

:D

Mia:)

Merlin 6th March 2004 19:29

Ah, the Lotus Elise. Excellent handling, but the first generation was better looking, imo. Still, it was designed entirely by men... and it shows. ;)

trailblazer 6th March 2004 19:32

It's a Volvo, so I guess it's supposed to be ugly...

MidnightViper88 6th March 2004 20:34

I see alot of women around here drive cars like the Toyota Celica and Ford Mustang...Although both cars are also favored by male drivers as well, if that Volvo is what women really want, then I suppose that the people that designed that car aren't really human at all... :weird:

...N...NASCAR?! :weird:

*goes to get run over in a highway*

Volvo's new 'Your Concept Car' is sleek and low-maintenance
girls.... low mantenance... does not compute... *head explodes*

mikm 6th March 2004 21:14

Having the hood locked down is the dumbest idea I've ever heard of. I don't see how that helps at all.

However, if this car sells, Volvo will make a killing from repairs. They could leave the refill points on the side of the car to make it easier, but leave the hood accessible for easy repairs.

Also, I would laugh my head off if somebody accidentally filled the washer tank with oil.

trailblazer 6th March 2004 23:08

Am I the only one who finds this concept VERY offensive? You're a girl, so we're not going to let you open the bonnet. Only men have a need (or desire) to see their car's engine, I guess. And I'd bet it is safe to assume that this would not even be offered with a manual tranmission - because women don't need it!

With that said, the only good thing about this car is that it will never be produced. :p Thank the lord for that...

I know I'm probably being oversenstive, but it really bugs me that Volvo created a fugly, dumbed-down car and then claimed that it is for women! I would have no problem with them calling it a NON-enthusiast's car. But the soccer moms who must have created it are very out of touch if they think that all women think like them.

Give me a 911 any day! :D

henry3k56 7th March 2004 00:20

Here, girls dig SUVs and trucks.

That kinda sucks for me, I drive a small car compared to their set of wheels.

Anyway, I like the ideas. But when will designers ever figure out that they need to put the steering wheel on the right side of cars here in the United States!!

SSJ4 Gogitta 7th March 2004 01:14

The US doesn't need the right hand side of the vehicle. We drive on the right hand side, so the steering wheel is on the left side of the vehicle.

Now, if we drove on the left hand side of the road, THEN the steering wheel would be on the right hand side of the vechicle.

And don't bother with "they should drive on the left" argument. Most of the world drive on the right hand side.

sgtfuzzbubble011 7th March 2004 02:54

I'm not even going to comment on this. It's so rediculous that it makes me mad.

Fickle 7th March 2004 02:58

The only idea I see worthwhile it to have theatre fold-up seats in the back. It certainly would making people getting into a coup a hell of a lot easier.

sgtfuzzbubble011 7th March 2004 03:03

Ok, I lied. I will comment.

This is true, but just wait until the fan belt snaps while you're driving down the road one day... You can't exactly pop the hood and throw a spare belt on it and crank it back up. And if this was designed by women for women, then what happens if one of said women has said fan belt snap late at night in the bad part of town? How content are you feeling about your car now?

trailblazer 7th March 2004 03:07

But women are not fit to replace fan belts. Leave it to the men who know what they are doing...

I am NEVER the person to complain about sexism, but I find this abhorrent!

henry3k56 7th March 2004 04:04

Now if I were a passenger in that car and something broke underneath the hood...or bonnet as its called...

whiteflip 7th March 2004 06:06

Girls wouldn't buy a car built by girls for girls. Guys wouldn't buy a car built by girls for girls. No one will buy that car (in meaningful volumes to volvos standards).

Well, I went there to look at it myself and after seeing it with my own eyes I have to tell you: It's still ugly! The movie that was going on in the background was stupid as well, some women driving this so "convenient" car - I just took that pic and escaped! ^_^

Mia:)

Vie 14th March 2004 19:31

First its ugly.
Second, NO REAR SEAT LEG ROOM!
Third....

Well, I can tell you one thing: You sure do make an uncool car look somewhat cool... ;) :D

Merlin 14th March 2004 20:40

It's even less nice to look at than I first realised.

trailblazer 14th March 2004 20:58

Wow, those are some big wheels for a girl's car. I'm surprised they allowed that...

lostonline 14th March 2004 21:15

What a stupid idea, and very ugly. I don't know how to fix many things on my car but if something did go wrong I wouldn't have the dealer fix it (except at the moment when it is under warranty) because I know cheaper and better places.

MaDCaT75 14th March 2004 21:17

Where the hell is the button for the vibrator seat!?

sgtfuzzbubble011 14th March 2004 21:21

Here's a much better picture of that car. I dunno, you all think it's ugly, but I think you'll change your mind when you see this picture. :)

morgado 14th March 2004 21:35

Totally agree with sgtfuzzbubble99 ...
Tha make this car worth looking ...
But, at least got nice wheels .. and a nice woman in front of it !! :p

trailblazer 14th March 2004 21:38

LOLOL! Maybe Volvo isn't that bad after all! :D

whiteflip 14th March 2004 22:55

Doors that open up are harder to get into. Total lack of function in that car.

MidnightViper88 14th March 2004 23:42

If they were scissor doors, that would prevent the chance if getting a door ding when opening up your door...But it doesn't...So BLAH!

henry3k56 15th March 2004 03:07

Lookin' good there Mia...at least you got to go see the car show in PERSON! ;)

Now to innovate the darn trip reset button...I keep forgetting to reset it every time I fill up, someone needs put a little keyhole near the place where you put fuel in your car that you turn to reset the Trip odometer reading.

IE: Your own car keys would be the only ones to reset the meter when you turn the keyhole near the gas cap.
