Play an audio file only when server is full?
When my server's full, I want people connecting to hear a brief, recorded audio message, but I don't want that same message played at the start of each and every stream when the server isn't full.
Could a .pls file do this? Specify the stream address first and a file in the content directory second? (And what would be the syntax for that?) Assuming this can be done, I've never used a .pls file on the server before. If I explicitly name the file "listen.pls", will that file then be what's called up when someone connects from their existing Winamp/iTunes favorite stored in their media player (from before any .pls file existed)? |
info on pls files but essentially what you are asking will work in a playlist.
http://forums.radiotoolbox.com/viewtopic.php?t=76 As to your second question, no. Typically players use the exact address and connect directly to the server. |
Excellent... thanks for the info!

listen.pls is there for browser's not players. Players simply don't need them to connect to your stream. SHOUTcast sends all non-mozilla clients the actual stream so index.html is not seen by the player.

If I just specify an IntroFile, will that get played to a client when the server is full, or does Shoutcast deny any connection whatsoever in that case?

any connection to the live stream is denied. The intro file will only be sent when they can connect to the stream, not when they can't.
