Get video but no audio

Hi, all --

This is my very first encounter with NSV and Internet TV, so I am a complete noob in this area and need your help. I searched all over for an answer, but at this point, my head is spinning.

Here's the problem. I am running Winamp 5.03. When I click on any of the Internet TV links or any of the video links on the Winamp home page, Winamp opens, the video window opens, I get video, but no audio. This is the only audio problem I have. I get excellent audio with mpeg, all the audio files, streaming ram, etc. The only audio problem is with Internet TV and the NSV videos on the Winamp homepage.

All help will be greatly appreciated. If any further info is needed, please holler.

Thanks to all.

Are you listening to NSV files you have made (encoded) yourself or files made by other people.

@shoutcast101

I have not made any of the files myself. I wouldn't even know where to start.

All the files are from others. They are all from Internet TV and also the video files that you will find down near the bottom of the Winamp homepage, where it has the file names and photos of the artists and you click to listen.

When I click on any of those links, I get video only, no audio.

Test a wav, mp3 or other sound file to see if the sound is still working.

Okay, I tested mp3, wav, midi, mpg, avi, streaming ram, and streaming mp3, and they all worked perfectly. No problem at all with the audio.

I also tested one of the videos on the Winamp home page called 'This Love" by Maroon5 and there was video but no audio. I then tested one of the Internet TV sites at random on my Media Library. It was "Web Ranger Nostalgia Broadcasting'" and again, video yes, audio no.

The only problem I am having is with these streaming NSV and Internet TV files. No audio. All else works pefectly.

Install a Third-Party MP3 decoder, and removed or disabled the default one by chance? (MP3Pro, MAD, mpg123)?

javalina 30th March 2004 01:43

@drewbar

Yes, Sir, that's it. I have the Shibatch mpg123 decoder installed. I turned the WA in_mpg.dll back on and the audio on the NSV works fine. When I turn it off, no audio on NSV. So that must be the answer.

Thank you so much for your help.

One last question. I like mpg123 because it supports replaygain and also supports the mp3infp program which extends the Windows Property tabs of MP3 files to do the IDv1 and IDv2 tagging there. If I use mpg123 plugin, I lose audio on NSV. But if I use mp3, I lose the benefits of mpg123, which I want.
I also notice that if I run them both, the mp3 plugin overrides mpg123.

Is there any way to run them both at the same time so I don't lose the NSV audio, but also keep realplay gain and the mp3infp benefits?

IOW, can I have my cake and eat it, too?

I bet the answer is no, but if I don't ask, I'll not know for sure.
If I must make a choice, I will choose mpg123. Its benefits far outweigh the NSV audio. But if I can get it all, why not?

Thanks again for your help.

You need in MP3 for the AAC and Dolby AAC decoding. But you can disable it for opening MP3s.

Preferences > Plug-ins > Input > Double Click "Nullsoft MPEG Audio Decoder"

Under the General Tab remove the extensions you don't want it to play (i.e. MP3;MP2;MP1) and it should still work fine with NSV.

@drewbar

Bingo! Everything is working perfectly now. I guess when it comes to this stuff, I can have my cake and eat it, too.

Thank you very much, Sir. I truly appreciate your help. I have learned much from this experience.
