Alright, I need help

Call me a retard or a newbie or whatever it is that your heart desires ;) I'm trying to make a skin (duh) and the only thing that worked was my font and my text color and I'm not sure why. I didn't edit the region.txt file, do I have to in order to make it work?

Lindvior 3rd April 2004 06:45

what type of skin maker? classic?

yes, it's a classic, and I've changed all the bmp files to what I want them to be, but when I zip it and make it a wsz file, the only thing that worked was my font and text color in the playlist area.

Can you attach the skin to a post in here, if it's small enough, or provide somewhere else it can be downloaded so people can have a look and see what's wrong.

ok, hopefully this works and it's not too big, otherwise, I'll upload it to my website.

What graphics program are you using to save the bitmaps?

Paintshop pro that I'm using here won't open them, tells me it's not a valid bitmap file.

If I open it in mspaint, and then do save as... and choose 24-bit bitmap, the images show up.

I think whatever your saving them in is saving in some weird and wonderful colour pallete/depth that winamp isn't liking.

Try altering the depth they are saved at in your graphics editing program, or failing that, just resave them all in mspaint as 24bit images.

Fixed up version, with your original bitmaps resaved under mspaint.

alright, one last question hopefully, I'm trying to fix the background so it's on top, and doing a pretty good job so far, I think ;) but I'm stumped as to which file I have to edit to finish the equalizer window off. It's attached, if someone could take a look at it for me and tell me what I'm looking for, that would be great. Thanks!

You can't put the picture on top of the EQ bars. That's because the graphics for each of the 11 EQ bars is the same as the others, if you follow me.

The only thing you can do is crop the EQ bars out, like I have done in this skin. Look at the EQMAIN.BMP in that file to see how I've cropped the bars out.

This will leave the EQ free for your picture, but will obviously sacrifice the functionality of the EQ pretty heavily (you will still be able to use the bars, but you won't be able to see them)

//also, don't be afraid to skin the components yourself. It will be more rewarding than just re-colouring the base skin :)

thanks, I'll take a look, I'm basically only making this for myself, my boyfriend is in marine boot camp right now, and I thought it would be cool to make a skin with the marine's symbol :)
