Opinions?

This is the third skin i'm working on, made entirely in paint as usual. ;)

The screenshot are three different colour schemes. I quite like the middle one but everyone i've asked hates it. Thought i'd ask the skin forum.

Mr Jones 3rd April 2004 19:32

Middle for sure.

White Raven 3rd April 2004 19:48

I like the one on the far left the most, or the far right... The one in the middle might be okay if you paled down the colours a bit... It's too garish for me. But yeah, do what you will.

flatmatt 3rd April 2004 20:27

Middle, definitely. Bold colors are cool.

inthegray 3rd April 2004 23:32

i like the one on the left.

Namelessv1 4th April 2004 01:20

Middle.

Lindvior 4th April 2004 05:31

right one for me....left is no bad...
middle's color is too bright

StillWater 5th April 2004 05:41

yep, middle would definitely be best if the colours weren't so in your face. Otherwise, left.

tydogg 5th April 2004 10:23

Middle

amano 5th April 2004 23:14

Middle.

beanboy89 6th April 2004 01:30

I like the middle one the best.

Raz 6th April 2004 21:07

Middle it is. Wanted to see if at least a few people liked it like i did.

Dark Ninja 8th April 2004 00:51

looks like lego

Doggy Dog 8th April 2004 11:45

IMO, the right one kinda sucks, the left one is good but bland, and the middle one's the best. Which seems to be almost everyone's opinion.

Done some on/off work on it. Pretty much finished the three main windows. All fully functional as a skin now.

Xerxes 20th May 2004 07:30

Very good work. Very. I haven't seen a skin that has made me thing "oh wow, original" in some time now. :) :) :)

StillWater 20th May 2004 08:10

in my opinion, it's not good to have clickable components and non-clickable ones grouped together - I'm talking here about the monoster and eq/pl buttons

The changing perspective of the PL stacks is a great touch

I don't think the EQ bars suit. I guess you can't really continue the 3d-block-cutout theme there, because you'd need the perspective to change from left to right. But I'm sure you can do something which matches the rest of the skin better.

One of my pet hates is cbuttons that are split up by the design, like the way the NEXT button is separated from the others here. If it were my skin, I'd definitely chage the 'architecture' around there to make the cbuttons all together again - but maybe that's just me.

-just a thought: the posbar is cool already, but have a tiny (red?) block sitting inside the yellow indent?

Raz 20th May 2004 13:39

Cheers X.

Some quite good advice, but i disagree with the cbuttons thing, it's a metphorically load bearing shape, keeps the pieces joined together nicely, plus there's only so many inverted cubes you can stick in before it looks crappy.

I tried the small red block thing, sounded like a good idea, just didn't look good.

I agree to a certain extent on the eq bars, no ideas as of yet but i'll keep an eye on it.

I'd bet money that if you bought a hi-fi on which the "next track" button was on a totally different section to the "last track" button, you'd think you've just bought a unit from the most retarded hifi company in the world.

I'm not in the least calling you or your skin retarded, but I'm saying that when one is making a skin, it's too easy to get carried away with the design and want it to play the main role. The fact is, it's a media player, and there are certain things that make a media player good, and certain things that make it bad. The media player is more important than the skin, so a good skin will always be subservient to the media player, instead of trying to make the media player subservient to it...if you know what I mean :)

Raz 25th May 2004 14:26

I see where you're coming from, but it keeps to the theme, it's an inverted cube, it's not different enough for your point to matter much for me. Plus i like the symmetry and the way it fits with the volume too much.
