I must be an idiot (tried the 15 steps)
Hello,
I am new here and I ask that you all please forgive me for being an idiot. I tried the 15 steps. Downloaded the necessary stuff (Shoutcast plug-in, DNAS server) and I get these errors whenever trying to connect: <04/20/04@14:27:11> [SHOUTcast] DNAS/win32 v1.9.4 (Mar 17 2004) starting up... <04/20/04@14:27:11> [main] loaded config from C:\Program Files\SHOUTcast\sc_serv.ini <04/20/04@14:27:11> [main] initializing (usermax:32 portbase:8000)... <04/20/04@14:27:11> [main] No ban file found (sc_serv.ban) <04/20/04@14:27:11> [main] No rip file found (sc_serv.rip) <04/20/04@14:27:11> [main] opening source socket <04/20/04@14:27:11> [main] error opening source socket! FATAL ERROR! Some other process is using this port! I have looked over the sticky threads and I don't quite think I can "get it" in regards to technical issues. I don't even know how to assign a port for my server or whatever. All I ask is that if anyone has info on where I should go after the 15 steps if problems persist, to PM me with any assistance they can offer. I'm quite new to all this. I just want to broadcast my CD collection so that others may hear obscure bands and so forth. Thank you very much. I apologize if this is considered spam. |
Yo, you have to edit the configuration file and change the port to some other port...some other process is using it.
If it worked at one time then it's because the process is still open because you probably killed the program with ctrl->z To close the program properly you must use ctrl->c The only way I have found to fix this is to restart the machine. --Mike |
Then how do I edit the configuration menu? I've tried assigning it to port 80, port 8001 and so forth with no luck.

See if this thread helps. Please read some polite advice. http://www.flex.com/~fester/shaka.gif |
I think I'm almost there.
Here's what I got when I figured out the incoming port for Kazaa and added that +1 to the Shoutcast connecting thingy: 04/21/04@12:06:37> [SHOUTcast] DNAS/win32 v1.9.4 (Mar 17 2004) starting up... <04/21/04@12:06:37> [main] loaded config from C:\Program Files\SHOUTcast\sc_serv.ini <04/21/04@12:06:37> [main] initializing (usermax:32 portbase:2377)... <04/21/04@12:06:37> [main] No ban file found (sc_serv.ban) <04/21/04@12:06:37> [main] No rip file found (sc_serv.rip) <04/21/04@12:06:37> [main] opening source socket <04/21/04@12:06:43> [main] source thread starting <04/21/04@12:06:43> [main] opening client socket <04/21/04@12:06:43> [main] Client Stream thread [0] starting <04/21/04@12:06:43> [source] listening for connection on port 2378 <04/21/04@12:06:43> [main] client main thread starting But when I clicked "Connect", it would say connecting for about a minute and then say "not connected". I have yp.shoutcast.com as the address for output configuration and Port 2377 selected, since this is the same open port KazaaLite uses. KazaaLite was not running when I tried connecting so it's probably not that. There's no internal firewall right now either. Just if you know what's wrong, let me know. I am having a very hard time following up on the links. |
If the DNAS and Winamp/DSP combo are on the same machine, then use "localhost" or "127.0.0.1" or "the lan ip of the DNAS if you're on a lan" (without the quotes) as the Address in the DSP.
If the DNAS and Winamp/DSP combo are on different machines but on the same lan, then use the lan ip of the DNAS as the Address in the DSP. Else, use the real, world-visible ip of the DNAS as the Address in the DSP. |
Woo hoo! It works.
Ok. Now how do I figure out the IP number of the station so I can tell my friends? <04/21/04@17:19:34> [main] connecting to yp.shoutcast.com to remove myself [no source] <04/21/04@17:19:34> [yp_rem] yp.shoutcast.com removed me! <04/21/04@17:19:34> [source] connected from 127.0.0.1 <04/21/04@17:19:34> [source] icy-name:Disorderly Radio ; icy-genre:Punk/Hardcore <04/21/04@17:19:34> [source] icy-pub:1 ; icy-br:128 ; icy-url:http://www.shoutcast.com <04/21/04@17:19:34> [source] icy-irc:#shoutcast ; icy-icq:0 ; icy-aim:DarkVice04 <04/21/04@17:19:35> [source] source dropped connection. disconnecting. <04/21/04@17:19:35> [dest: 205.188.234.74] server unavailable, disconnecting <04/21/04@17:19:35> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave error (nak) <04/21/04@17:19:35> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave extended error (404 Cannot see your station/computer from the Internet, disable Internet Sharing/NAT/firewall/ISP cache) <04/21/04@17:19:37> [source] connected from 127.0.0.1 <04/21/04@17:19:37> [source] icy-name:Disorderly Radio ; icy-genre:Punk/Hardcore <04/21/04@17:19:37> [source] icy-pub:1 ; icy-br:128 ; icy-url:http://www.shoutcast.com <04/21/04@17:19:37> [source] icy-irc:#shoutcast ; icy-icq:0 ; icy-aim:DarkVice04 <04/21/04@17:19:40> [source] source dropped connection. disconnecting. However, it looks as if I still need to do some more work. It says it can't see the station/computer from the net. |
Internet sharing is disabled. There are no firewalls up now. No NAT devices. I couldn't find anything on ISP cache. It might be ok now though. I only got the error once.
Now how do I find my station's IP address? |
Aloha DisorderlyRadio!
Are you using Windows XP? That has an internal firewall. Either configure it or disable it. Does your ISP block ports? Check out http://www.radiotoolbox.com/cantheygetin and see if the reported information there helps. DNAS link: http://yourDNASip:yourDNASport Listen link: http://yourDNASip:yourDNASport/listen.pls Replace yourDNASip with the ip of the DNAS (SHOUTcast server) and yourDNASport with the DNAS port (default is 8000) Example: If your DNAS ip is 123.345.567.789 and your DNAS portBase is 2112, then your links would be: DNAS link: http://123.345.567.789:2112 Listen link: http://123.345.567.789:2112/listen.pls Also, if your router doesn't support local loopback then machines on the same lan as the DNAS (you) need to use the lan ip of the DNAS to connect/listen. Machines not on the same lan as the DNAS (the rest of the world) need to use the real, world-visible ip of the DNAS to connect/listen. Please don't give out urls with 127.0.0.1 as the ip. That is a local loopback ip. See RFC3330 for more information. Please don't give out urls with 192.168.x.y or 10.x.y.z or 172.(16-31).x.y as the ip. That is a private lan ip. See RFC1918 for more information. Scroll down and look for the section titled: 3. Private Address Space How to find your ip address (Part I). How to find your ip address (Part II). Finally, you can get a static name, such as foo.bar.com (not as cool as that, though :)) from http://www.no-ip.com or one of the other myriad of Dynamic DNS Services. Then, your links would be: DNAS link: http://foo.bar.com:yourDNASport Listen link: http://foo.bar.com:yourDNASport/listen.pls Please read some polite advice. http://www.flex.com/~fester/shaka.gif |
I can listen to my station using the listen link but for some reason, the same song loops back when I load songs from a CD. Should I run the playlist on the computer in order for it to work properly?
The ports 2377 and 2378 are the ports I use. I can hear my station once again by trying the link you listed. Let me know if I'm still doing something wrong |
It's working! :D
After all, it has to be. The port is open. I'm just gonna keep an eye on it. I've got 1 listener so far. http://69.162.175.249:2377/listen.pls (sorry for the promotion in here) |
Mucho thanx for the help, folks!
I am very happy. My first listener reported that he was hearing my stream so I'm all set! :D |
