Losing Teeth

My little sister just lost a tooth. I never lost a tooth though. I had to have every single one of mine pulled either by a dentist, ortho surgern, or by myself. :( The toothfairy always paid me extra though since all my teeth still had the roots :p

Share some of your fun tooth losing stories.

gd seems dead, and I am bored

... This is a scary one, about teeth:

I had a shitty, Second rate dentist for a while. When I was young, I needed some cavities capped, so we had these guys do it.

8 years later, I'm told that my old shitty dentist (that is now out of buisiness btw,) put a filling ON TOP of a cavity! The cavity ATE away at the INSIDE of my tooth, and that tooth was eventually ROOT canaled. They had to cauterize (SP) my gum, to stop the bleeding.

man, some of us just have the best luck with teeth  .

dlinkwit27 29th April 2004 02:27

Ouch! That's worse than when I had 10 teeth pulled so I coudl have braces! (my mouth is too small for my teeth). I had all my wisdom teeth pulled + 6 others i don't remember. Not pleasant, but they did knock me out so it wasn't all bad. It was the disolving stiches that sucked!

stupid dlink, why didn't you put this in the first psot you post pumper!
-becuase the first post was about my sister
whatever post pumper! eidtsumknild
-what's that say?

:p

squakMix 29th April 2004 02:28

They didnt knock me out :(

dlinkwit27 29th April 2004 02:29

Haha, yea, the "Little Pinch". You do realize that that "Pinch" is the Dentist giving you a shot in the gums...

yeah then afterwords my face felt like it was going to fall off but it didn't matter much because my old dentist would give me the laughing gas mask and let me sit for what felt like hours. man that stuff was great. maybe I should stop brushing for a while and let my teeth go to hell and see if the dentist will hook me up with some more of that stuff.

sgtfuzzbubble011 29th April 2004 04:40

I still haven't had any of my wisdom teeth pulled... but it's not far off. They've actually been pushing through the gums for quite some time now, but they haven't really caused any problems yet. Every few months or so, they'll ache like hell for a few days, but it always goes away. Next time I go to the dentist for a checkup (and some cavity fillings, I'm sure), I'll ask him what he thinks I should do. I'm not sure if I should go ahead and get them pulled now or wait until they all finish pushing through.

Lapikas 29th April 2004 07:13

I've had 2 wisdom teeth pulled. I hate it. Gums usually bleeds about 2 days, and face feels like you've banged your head against the wall. Can't eat, can't sleep. And I still have 2 more growing .
Last time I went to dentist it costed me almost 100 €. Damn big money for a student..

Mrs_Mia_Wallace 29th April 2004 10:00

I still have all of my teeth with no fillings although I eat a lot of sweets (but I brush my teeth often), I cross my fingers that it will stay that way!

The only tooth I ever got pulled was one wisdom tooth, it wasn't out yet so they had to cut my gums open to cut and drill it out of my jaw :igor: I only got an injection against the pain but the sound of a drill inside your jaw is nothing pleasurable either...

The only first tooth I ever had pulled was the last one when I already had my set of second teeth - the dentist shouldn't have pulled it (she only put iceing spray on it! Of course it hurt like a bitch since it was one of the back teeth) since there was no tooth coming after that, I simply have one missing now but you cannot see it anymore since my jaw is small anyway so the teeth all moved and covered up the gap.

I also chipped one of my front teeth at a party when a drunk girlfriend of mine decided she wanted to sit on my lap while I was drinking out of a malibu bottle...she hit the bottle which hit my tooth and it chipped. It really hurt and since I was drunk I thought almost the whole tooth was gone since it always feels bigger when you put your tongue on it...finally I saw myself in the mirror and calmed down since it was only a small edge. It looked funny but I had it repaired, now you cannot see it anymore, it'll last about 5 years, then it'll be chipped again and I need to get it done once again...maybe I'll leave it like that for a while since it really did look funny somehow :D

Mia:)

Too-DAMN-Much 29th April 2004 10:30

never had any teeth pulled myself, but i've had a bit of fillings, and oddly enough i'm still only almost finished getting one of my wisdom teeth (no pain or anything noticable from it really, and the dentist says my jaw should have enough room for it/them), but the really weird thing i think is my dentist was convinced i wasn't even going to get any wisdom teeth at all but about a year ago two of em started showing up on his x-ray's and one's coming through.

Germ 29th April 2004 12:10

I bit a fork once and chipped one of my teeth.

Ouch! I did that too, only on a coffee mug.

ShyShy 29th April 2004 14:20

I had four teeth pulled before I got braces, like dlink, my jaw bone was too small. I did ok during the dentist's the office, but, had forgotten to fill my Rx for Tylenol with codeine for afterwards. Went home, took a nap, and woke up crying cause my face was hurting. Wasn't much fun.

Like, Too-DAMN-Much, I was told that I had no buds for wisdom teeth. Now, I've got one out, and another taking it's happy ol' time coming out. And no dental insurance right now to take care of them.

That reminded me of another good story.

Another little sister of mine was about 3 or 4, and she slipped down our basement (aka, cellar) stairs (wooden stairs, leading to a concrete floor) and she knocked her top two front teeth out. The teeth broke so they couldn't put them back in so she had no front teeth until she turned about 8ish.

mark 29th April 2004 16:15

i fell down some stairs a year ago and knocked out and chipped a front one. It got put back in and repaired. apparently i'll need a bridge or something in 5 years...

the other front tooth turned grey...

xzxzzx 29th April 2004 18:02

Wow. I get to have all four wisdom teeth pulled this year. That's gonna suck. I'm gonna want it with local only.

IV Sedation? Ugh.

On another note, I just had four cavities done without novicane. The worst part about that was the smell (for those who don't know what it smells like, get a couple of pieces of quartz, and hit them together a few times. Then imagine what that tastes like, as well...

Well, ok, the pain was the worst part. But that taste was there for a long time, all that day, and the next.

However, there's no recovery time. Which is fucking awsome.

Dark Ninja 29th April 2004 22:08

i lost tetth in fights too
sadly i did`nt win and the ****ers got away with it even though i knew who they were,
no charges were brought to them an i got no compensation,
i blame all that on my life being so messed up now

hgnis 29th April 2004 22:36

Never lost teeth in a fight, but once blacked out while training and broke my jaw teeth. It has since been filed down.

I hate that too, the first time I had a filling it hurt like crazy and they held the damn think in there for friggin ever.

Wanna hear something funny:I brush my teeth for about 30 seconds, some other person in my family who shall remain nameless brushes hers really well. We all went for a checkup at the dentist a few months ago, I had two cavities, she had 7.

Mike H. 29th April 2004 23:14

Since we're all posting our dental history:

When I was four years old, I reached across a table (which was beside the couch), trying to get a book. Well, my arm wasn't quite long enough, so I climbed on the arm of the couch and fell face down onto a telephone. My gums were shoved into my nose. I don't remember what happened after that, but somehow my mouth was fixed.

It's the same way with me and my sister. She takes "better" care of her teeth than I do, and yet my teeth are healthier than hers. But then again, I eat a lot more than she does, so maybe I'm getting more calcium.

sgtfuzzbubble011 29th April 2004 23:39

Drink milk.

My sister and I are exactly like that, too. Her teeth are softer than mine are, so needless to say, mine tend to stay in better shape with less work. But I'm sure I have a couple cavities that need to be filled... I'll see about getting an appointment set up with my dentist soon.

hgnis 30th April 2004 04:36

The more a person salivates is also a factor: it prevents acid buildup so you know what to do. :D

s1138 30th April 2004 04:50

i have no cavities, and have only had my wisdom teeth pulled.
they were impacted (in the gums) and i was knocked out, and they were cut out

the only thing i really remember about that is, going to mcdonalds afterwards to get a milkshake, cause McD was next to the dentist office. when i got home i ate the milkshake...ofcours had to take the guaze out, and i was heavily drugged, and my mouth was bleeding a bit.
i really remember me going "look, there is blood in my milkshake" and laughing about it, thinking it was the funniest thing in the world. :D

uh, you know supposedly you can die from pain in your teeth right??
or did you have the local in the four just done? (couldn't tell from your post)

protegechris 30th April 2004 14:38

My bro's old dentist screwed ghim up. long story short, he had 16 teeth pulled, hes 12, and they were all babies that never came out.

I have one tooth that is up in the top of my mouth lmao
Im getting braces later this year. that sucks when you find out i ran out of the doctors office and all they had to do was clean myteeth lmao.

Um. I can die from that pain?

It really wasn't that bad.

Anyway, to clarify: I had absolutely no anesthetic when I got those four cavities filled. Much better that way, honestly.

Too-DAMN-Much 30th April 2004 17:46

@ xzxzzx : yes supposedly toothaches and getting your teeth drilled without anesthetic can kill you if it is severe enough

xzxzzx 30th April 2004 18:00

Well I would get some novicane if I was having a fucking root canal! It's just a few cavities.

I'd imagine, by the way, the only way it would kill you is if your body went into shock from the pain.

mark 30th April 2004 18:42

I had a root drilled out without any anesthetic. course, it was the dead one, all i felt was buzzing...

made my nose tickle... :D

Phyltre 30th April 2004 19:51

When my father went in for a root canal, they used a plasic/rubber barrier thing in the back of his throat to keep the bacteria out of his system. This went pretty well, until it was discovered (whilst his mouth was being bleached, mind you) that a hole existed in the barrier. The resulting leak of bleach closed his throat up completely and nearly asphyxiated him. On the positive side, he's a pretty big guy and the consequential involuntary flailing about and rhino-in-a-tea-shop romp while my father tried to recover airflow provided ample reminder to the bruised and beaten dentistry (and nearby environs) to always check those plastic barriers for leaks before using them on patients.

This really did happen, as funny as it sounds on paper.

Or if you started flailing around so hard that you fell off the chair and cracked your head open.:)

squakMix 1st May 2004 00:09

...Or the dentist is pushing so hard on the drill, It ricochets off your tooth, and he ends up jamming the spinning drill Straight throught the roof of your mouth. :D

...or if by some sign of God, you're struck down by a bolt of lightning for coming up with lame ways to die while getting a cavity drilled at the dentist's office... :p

Indeed. I'm going to install the big hard drive before that, though, considering it has to be done "on location".
