Check out my new MSouse...

MS Intellimouse Explorer 4.0
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mo...s.aspx?pid=003

Ordered one late last week and just got it in the mail. I haven't hooked it up yet, but this thing is total pwnage. I originally saw this mouse (same, but the one I saw was wireless) in Office Depot about two weeks ago. I loved it, but I hated the fact that it was wireless. And I couldn't find any stores that had the normal wired version in stock. So I ended up ordering it online, and just got it yesterday. I've got several of the original Intellimouse Optical mice (two of which have never been used yet), and these things rock ass... so you know this new Intellimouse is the shiz. :D And I don't care what anyone says about MS; Mice are one thing that they KNOW how to make.

d0rk 29th April 2004 03:01

I've wanted that for awhile now :)

deeder7001 29th April 2004 06:00

those things are freaking expensive

InvisableMan 29th April 2004 06:46

ive still got my old intellemouse 1.0... one of the first optical mice. i've kicked its ass and replaced its led a good 20 times and the glide pads at least 5 times and its still workin fine

Lapikas 29th April 2004 07:04

zootm 29th April 2004 09:15

why'd you hate the fact it was wireless, out of curiosity? wireless technology these days is amazing...

deeder7001 29th April 2004 09:17

i like wireless things. keeps the desktop clean

willing to bet it's the same reason my old 5-button wireless optical gets quite a bit less use than the MS 3-button optical....

damn thing needs to be charged after only about 6-8 hours of use

three damn hours to charge?!!????

Actually, wires don't make your desktop dirty. Dirt (and ooze and dust and grime etc.) makes your desktop dirty.

aFfLiCtEd 29th April 2004 13:23

Cool! .. I gotta get me one of those. Tilt wheel .... too cool!

fwgx 29th April 2004 14:15

I might get one of there next. But for now I really like my normal Ms wheel mouse.

d0rk 29th April 2004 15:20

The Mouse I really want is Logitech MX™510 Performance Optical Mouse

:) its only $50

Yea but it sucks when your in teh middle of a game of any sort and suddenly your mouse needs new batteries.

mark 29th April 2004 16:04

i have a wireless optical mouse 2.0

tilt wheel doesnt work in most programs. :(

xzxzzx 29th April 2004 18:05

I like my mouse. $30, optical, Microsoft, wired. Smooth as fuck, never skips, etc.

Wired > Wireless.

Yeah, I thought of that after I left my flat :)

deeder7001 29th April 2004 19:22

my wireless mouse lasts a couple of days between charges. and my keyboard lasts more than a month with some AA batteries.

Not so. Ordering online, I only paid $32 for it. That was less than my Intellimouse Optical when I bought it a while back.

And I say, that thing looks uncomfortable as hell. :p

Haha I wish. After I send in this one last payment on my truck, then maybe I'll have a little cash to save up. ;)

I have no doubt that the wireless mice and keyboards today rock ass, but I still prefer wired over wireless because:

Wired > Wireless.

The Intellimouse Optical that I'm currently using (bought it when they were first released) has never had a single problem. Way smoother than any non-optical mouse, never have to worry about dead batteries, never have to worry about RFI, etc. Plus, wired mice tend to be a tad bit lighter than wireless mice because of the battery weight.

And yeah. That too. :D

Not really, lol. Wireless is still pretty shitty, considering a good response range of about 4 feet at most, maybe 5 feet, and the fact that the signal can easily be absorbed with even something not terribly dense as paper in the way, or an arm, leg, etc...

I like my MS Intellimouse and MS keyboard, they know how to make good mice and keyboards :). However, I wish my keyboard was a slim one like the laptop keyboards, or even the kind made entirely out of flexible plastic that can be rolled up and submerged. :D

squakMix 29th April 2004 23:19

Hey, I prefer to stick to the basics

Mike H. 29th April 2004 23:29

I don't like my mouse. When I scroll down with the scroll wheel, sometimes it scrolls back up by one screen. Also, it occasionally activates itself and causes the pointer to jump, and I know it is the mouse causing this because the light getss brighter when you move it. At least it looks cool, but that's only because I replaced the red LED with a blue one (I had to, because the red one looked stupid in a translucent blue case).

sgtfuzzbubble011 29th April 2004 23:47

Well, that's probably why your mouse does that. The sensor isn't seeing the proper frequency of light.

Raz 30th April 2004 01:12

When playing a game with a wireless mouse it takes longer to react. Only very slightly but when it's an important game it makes all the difference.

ryan 30th April 2004 01:30

Mine

ScorLibran 30th April 2004 01:43

I bought it two days ago. It's the best mouse I've ever had. :) The tilt-wheel is really handy for side scrolling, as they advertise. And the two small buttons on the thumb side, for "Forward" and "Back" browsing functions are nice too. I don't have to go to the toolbar for navigation or to the bottom scrollbar at all any more.

The thing is really quiet...I can hardly hear the clicks, but the response feels good.

And the weirdest thing to get used to? The scroll wheel is stepless. It's smooth and weighted...feels really odd when you first use it, then aweesome when you get used to it (after a few minutes). And being stepless, you have much more granular scrolling with it. I can move just one line at a time, or with big movements I can scroll almost twice as far as with my old mouse with a stepped scroll wheel.

This is my second cordless mouse....my last one being Microsoft's first gen cordless several years ago. Back then it was touchy with the reception...I'd get pauses and drops every now and then. It was annoying enough that I went back to the wire after a week or so.

But this new one is as well connected as a wired mouse. No drops or pauses at all.

Highly recommended! :)

sgtfuzzbubble011 30th April 2004 02:17

^ Yes! :D

Wonderful, isn't it? :)

Btw idiot, that's the mouse that I've got hooked to this computer right now. I've been using it since they were first released, and I still love it. At least MS made a mouse worthy to be its successor. :D

squakMix 30th April 2004 02:37

How much does it cost?

sgtfuzzbubble011 30th April 2004 02:46

I ordered it online, and I paid just over $32 for it.

Nice.

ScorLibran 30th April 2004 02:52

I paid $34.99 for mine, on sale at a local Best Buy. But the online Best Buy price was still the retail $49, I believe.

Shop around and you can find one around the price Sarge did, I'm sure.

It's money well spent.

sgtfuzzbubble011 30th April 2004 03:01

Very well spent... This new Intellimouse and the old Intellimouse Optical are hands down the best MS products ever made. :)

xzxzzx 30th April 2004 03:45

Mine. (Wheel Mouse Optical)

s0be 30th April 2004 03:57

I've been using an 'MS Intellimouse with Intellieye' since the summer of 2000(maybe earlier, can't remember). It's nearing the end of it's life cycle (retire to the server pasture for emergency use). I bought it mismarked at OfficeMax the day it came out because the idiot boy put the wrong sticker on it. I grabbed the manager, got him to make the sales clerk ring it in as marked, and he thanked me for pointing out the idiot.

i just bought the Logitech uh...MX500 i think? comes with a keyboard also, hasnt arrived yet...

looks nice.

deeder7001 30th April 2004 05:08

i have a wireless kensington keyboard and mouse. it works nicely. i can hook up the mouse to a usb port to recharge it. i can use it that way too. the keyboard doesn't have the recharge thing. its a good setup that i like.

Actually, it is quite comfortable ... it is getting used to that is the problem. I had the Microsoft Intellimouse Optical (the one that was a step down from the explorer) and that one hurt my hand more.
