WinAMP 5 flakey with streaming audio on X

Original topic: "WinAMP 3 can't play streaming audio on XP" not found with search error: "The search term you specified (3) is under the minimum word length (2) and therefore will not be found. Please make this term longer. "

This is a continuation of that topic, but now with the latest WinAMP lite version installed.

The problem manifests itself intermittently, particularly after having booted up the PC and going to a web page with Shoutcast streams and attempting to listen. WinAMP displays Listen[1] and sits there doing nothing.

I found that if I click the link repeatedly, about 18 times, it will suddenly spool up and start playing. Attempts to play streams thereafter are successful. It's as if something needed to be initialized first.

I have various versions of WinAMP on WIndows 2000 PCs and have not seen any of these problems, so I think it's an XP-specific problem. The affected maching is a Sony GRX560 laptop with XP Home [oem].

Try one of more of the following...
  • Clear the Internet cache
MS Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options... > General tab > click the 'Delete Files' button under "Temporary Internet Files"
    -or-
Control Panel > Internet Options icon > General tab > click the 'Delete Files' button under "Temporary Internet Files"
  • Make sure Winamp's 'Internet Connection Settings' correctly reflects your Internet connection
    Ctrl+P > Genreal Preferences
  • In on a firewall, make sure it is configured to allow Winamp full access.
No luck? Please post system specs including the internernet connection type and speed. A couple links to the problematic stations would be helpful also.

BTW The search error was caused by using a number with a single digit.
