All additional responses and suggestions are much appreciated.

Question:

I think I have found a solution that is both cost effective and convenient.
Although the prospect of broadcasting 24/7 may seem appealing the reality is that not all can afford this, let alone maintain it.
So what if you could have your own 1 hour broadcasting slot each day with 40 clients at 250k all for £10 a month, sound appealing?

how about 1 hour a month for 1200 clients for the same price ?
(40 clients x 30 days = 1200 per month)

that'd be very reasonable... especially since I'm looking to do a project to broadcast for just one hour every month.

Doug.

There are open source peer to peer streaming software systems that dont require any payment for any server.

However it does require the users to be honest and have properly configured firewalls/routers, of which half (or around half) will not have, and when someone trys to view the stream off the misconfigured user, it'll mess up.

P2p casting just isn't working at the moment because people don't know their upload speeds, so they say they can serve 5 users when they can really only hold one, and such like that.

Also, you'd have to get 720 hours sold (thats 30 days) and I don't know if you can still afford it afterward. PLUS you have to get the person to agree to a few rules, meaning max bandwiddth per users, saying if they're going to use 100kbit then they can hold 300 users, and if they use 300kbit then only 100 users, and that requires you to edit the server, unless you can have (AND ENFORCE) a limit.

It's insanely complicated to even make something like this a reality.

Thanks for your feedback on the idea, what I have learnt is that creating such a system would be both complicated and would have appeal to everyone and besides there are other alternatives such as P2P which is free.
