The unwritten laws of music......

There are so many unwritten truths about music. Someone should write the book.....

To start:

Law #1. You will be crap towards the end.

Evidence - Every 80's band that's still going.

Think that's just a law for designer bands :)

Law #2 - The third album is the one that really counts.

There are exceptions.
The new Tesla album, Into The Now is better than any of their early stuff.

Before anyone says, they sucked then too.....
Keep in mind what I can do with your future in these forums:p

I agree with Chev: not every 80's band that is still going sucks. I like the new Cure song, "The End of the World," although their older stuff is better. I wouldn't say it sucks, though.

I wouldn't say this is the case all the time, either. Look at Nirvana. In Utero may have been their last album, but Nirvana will always be remembered for Nevermind, specifically, "Smells Like Teen Spirit." Nevermind was their most successful album and "SMLT" was their most successful song, so those will be what most people will think of when they think of Nirvana. Unfortunate, really, because my most of my favorite Nirvana songs are from In Utero and after ("You Know You're Right," "Dumb," "All Apologies"), as well as before Nevermind ("Been a Son," "Sliver"). Nevermind was a great album; its just disappointing that most people forget about the rest of their work.

Law #3:

a) Start out with nothing,
b) get addicted to drugs and alcohol while having everything,
c) almost loose everything, and your life,
d) recover from drugs and alcohol,
e) go on a reunion tour to sell a new CD,
f) do a Behind The Music biography on VH1.

Doesn't that apply to 80's band, too? :p

ElChevelle 22nd May 2004 22:47

Somewhere in there, an 80's band member has the responsibility of banging Pamela Anderson:p
