Ah yes, that's one of those low flying ones that doubles as a sub.

sgtfuzzbubble011 7th June 2004 00:21

It's too bad they couldn't crank up the power on the catapult all the way... If they did, it would have ripped the car in half.

Germ 7th June 2004 00:28

cyu 7th June 2004 00:29

I'm guessing it is, when in the test phase of the carriers they launch all kinds stuff off the flight decks, usually they launch sleds that have the same weight as the airplanes that they will be launching. They do this to dial in the specific force needed to launch the plane with the catapult.

I've seen them launch other things too, just never a car though:blah:

ElChevelle 7th June 2004 22:22

Being Ex-Navy, I can fill you in:
They used to test the catapult capacities with old cars, but now use reuseable, floating projectiles.
It's been said that a steam catapult can launch a late 60's model Cadillac 3 miles.

sgtfuzzbubble011 7th June 2004 23:24

If the car weren't torn to pieces in the process, that is...

horse-fly 8th June 2004 00:13

and they spend billions on the military budget when they could launch an old rusty car that far!!!

beanboy89 8th June 2004 00:14

Funny picture. :blah:
