It isnt going to happen overnight.I've been doing this since February, and I'm happy to see 3 listeners.

Everyone is going to tell you it takeshard work.

Get out and promote your station, tell your friends, join yahoo groups and tell people.

Join forums and tell people.

Basically advertise As much as possible.

i wouldn't, it's all about giving them what they want, if you are willing to flexible about the programming and you have an understanding of what target audience you are looking to get then making a top station is quite easy. Requiring only shoutcast.com and the Media Library for advertising.

The two single biggest things I would say is keeping that stream up 24/7 and keeping a consistent format. The n you will slowly grow because unless you have lots of friends and family listening it will take time. The default settings on the Internet Station listing browser on Winamp won't even pick you up unless you have 10-15 listeners.

I agree with KRXM. Its really not that hard. As long as you're not the same as the other stations in your genre.

I've been up since Janurary 17, 2004 and I've had 8,000 listeners total since I've been up.

What makes me unique is that I have a Talk Shows on my station. Do giveaways, stuff like that.

This is a good thread about promoting your site and the like, mainly common sense, but worth reading;

yeah, time has nothing to do with it, it is about giving people what they want. Also I use shoutcast, icecast and nicecast on my Mac. This gets us on more listings.

We are in our first week, and in the last 72 hours have not dropped below 30 listeners. I watch our stats closely to see what songs bring 10 more listeners or drop 20 to know what to add into rotation more often and what to drop out.

protegechris 11th June 2004 12:18

You do have some good content :D im listening now ;)

Yeah, about the content, I have over 24 hours of music now,and I have found myself pulling more and more music out of rotation.

consistancy, the music needs to be up 24/7. Have backup plans in place in case your isp goes down or you have computer issues. Get the listeners interacting with the station. A tag-board worked wonders for us. Requests are great too. But most of all get input from your listeners and play what they want to hear.

I Agree

Give away lots of shit. Not cool stuff, just shit. I gave away a shoe! Plus, what about puppies? Everybody loves puppies! I lit one on fire on the air, and people flocked by the 1's to hear it. I now have a listener. In fact, I have been slammed all day! The puppy incident alone brought my listener numbers to a wopping 10 today. I think tomorrow I'm gonna give away my plunger!.....LOL.

No problem. I give compliments only when they are completely sincere, and yes, everytime I listen or see your sig, I see something I like.
