How To Copy Game Cd's

I had the Diablo 2 Expansion for both my computers. One of my Cd's got scratched and isn't working properly anymore. I have two seperate Cd Key's (you get them when you buy the game) that you enter when you install, to make sure your games aren't pirated.

I sometimes play with friends at my house, or level a new character while I play with a bigger character on my other computer, but I can't now because I only have 1 CD.

What I want to know is how to copy my working Diablo EXP CD onto a CD-R to put in my second computer? I tried to do this already but it said it couldn't use burnt CD's to play.

Does anybody know how to burn it a certain way to make it run? And so nobody says what I think they are gonna say, this is NOT for pirating. Blizzard makes sure every game played online has a unique CD Key. I have two because I bought the game for both computers. But I don't wanna go and buy yet another copy for no reason!

I could be wrong and correct me if I am, But I heard that game CDs were currently being digitally scrambled to preclude you from doing exactly what you're attempting to do.
YOU might not consider it pirating but, ..... oh what the hell do I know? .... I'm just talkin out my ass now. ..but thats what I "heard".

deeder7001 12th June 2004 02:22

you could just dump what's on the CD to the hard drive and then burn what's been put on the hard drive. probably won't work as i've never tried anything like that.

That's exactly what I tried. It doesn't work. I'm pretty sure there's a special way to do it.

Pirating would mean I didn't legally buy the game, which I did! Would you like me to scan the reciet!

Anyway, anybody who knows anything about Blizzard games would know that even if I were trying to pirate, I wouldn't get far without a CD Key. You can't just create them.

you may not be able to create CD keys but you can find them on the internet. all you have to do is google for CD keys.

If the same CD Key is used online by two seperate parties, the CD Key is then banned. Plus their are no CD Key generators, as every CDK printed in Blizzard's database, fakes don't work. (This is for online play though, nobody cares about single players :p)

deeder7001 12th June 2004 02:39

you might be able to find a cracked version somewhere.

toejam07 12th June 2004 02:46

My computer came with Sonic RecordNow!, which lets you make exact copies of CDs, provided you have two drives. I don't know whether they offer it for purchase from their website, though, but it would probably work for you if you can get it.

deeder7001 12th June 2004 02:49

my computer came with record now as well. it works for what i need. i don't think you need 2 drives though to copy a CD. you just have to have enough space on your hard drive.

horse-fly 12th June 2004 02:53

you can buy the diablo 2 expansion for like 5$ nowadays

toejam07 12th June 2004 02:56

You might be right deeder. I have two drives and it works great for me. But if you can get the diablo 2 expansion for $5, then why bother?

squakMix 12th June 2004 03:21

Ok, You need to get a product called clone CD (or any other burning program that copies the CD image) to burn/rip the game, and then after installing using the Burnt disc, you can get a nocd crack (these are essential) from gamecopy world, but I will not post a link here.

I successfully burnt Diablo 2 using this fasion.

BlindWrite Suite
Make the image and with the BWS burn a blank cd ...

If you want to copy the CD then I second reapers suggestion.

If you just want to play the game on two computers then I suggest, using a CD-Rom emulator. (one is included with CloneCD 4.2, which sqauk suggested). It creates a psudo-cd drive on your HD, which you dump a cd contents to. It also greatly reduces load times for an HD is conciderably faster then a CD-rom drive.

I believe Alcohol 120% has that too but I'm not certain whether it's just for mounting image files or if it actually does what you described.

I've tried 120% before, it kept messing up my computer, I don't know why though..

I kept bugging out or restarting? I figure it had something to do with accepting the fake drives..

120% is brillaint at emulation, supporting most game protection emulations.

TheMilhouseMan 12th June 2004 15:13

Most manufacturers will replace a damaged CD. Try calling them...

PulseDriver 12th June 2004 15:29

I must say this about Microsoft. One thing they do that is great is, they allow backup copies on most of their games. I have never had to "go around" anything to be able to back up their games. :) Which I find very positive. The games I talk about here is, Midtown Madness, Metal Gear Solid (Metal Gear 3), Motocross Madness and Flight Simulator 2000.

I do use the backup-discs when I play. Lately I have used ISOs while playing, for the simple reason of my CD-ROM sounds like an airplane while it reads, so making my games into ISO removes a lot of disturbance.

These days I have blown a little dust of my Baldur's Gate collection, currently playing Baldur's Gate - Tales of the Sword Coast.

So thubs up MS when it comes to being able to backup. Anyways, I haven't bought any MS games as of lately, so they might have put some manner of protection on their games, but all the games I have from MS got license-number, and you can send the whole game with the number, and you get a new one for the price of the material (what it costed to make the game, and not the price in stores).

Have you concidered looking on the website of the manufacturer for the return policy?

Sandman2012 13th June 2004 07:32

I also recommend Alcohol 120% for disc backups. Club CD Freaks will have all the info you need about which emulation to use.

If it's defective, considering I bought it over a year ago..

My best bet is to just find a crappy one somewhere in a pawnshop. I was looking for a quick fix.

ryan 13th June 2004 09:42

If I were you, I would just download an ISO of the game..

DMCA might have a few problems with it, but who cares, you paid for it.

:p

eleet-2k2 13th June 2004 13:10

Why not use Alcohol 120%, it's made for 1:1-bit copies of CDs to circumvent copy protection.

You could also try Goldenhawk's CDR-Win.

I offered a quick fix. Did you try it?
