The 18 month-old soda

Yesterday, I was thirsty, and I found a can of Diet Mountain Dew in the back of the refridgerator (I didn't want to wait to chill a can of Coke, or anything), so I drank that...I completly forgot I had anything like that to drink in the fridge, so when I opened it, I thought about seeing how long it's been there by checking the "Best taste" date on the bottom of the can, and it read "JAN 20 2003"...

I drank it anyway, and aside from it was diet, I didn't taste anything that was wrong with it (Still carbonated too)... :D

ElChevelle 25th June 2004 03:17

To be honest, it shouldn't taste any different.
That whole born on date crap is just that.....crap.

MidnightViper88 25th June 2004 03:23

A couple years ago in 8th grade, some Korean kid brought in some Toll House cookies or something for our class that supposivly expired a year or two ago, but still tasted fine (Luckily no mold, or anything)... :D

ElChevelle 25th June 2004 03:24

Just make sure your women were "born on" at least 18 years ago;)

whiteflip 25th June 2004 03:58

18 years or 18 months?
women are like a fine bottle of wine. they get popped after 15 or so years and after that they spoil. im sorry that was horrible.

Man, you need ice over there pretty bad. I suggest an ice cube tray.

beanboy89 25th June 2004 04:11

The dates printed on the can or most food products are the "sell by" date. The store must sell that product by the date printed.

Magic_Midget 25th June 2004 05:03

My friend's grandma kept and old unopened can of Pepsi dating back to the 1970s and I accidentally drank it...

Kinda flat..but nothing less

Huehuetenango 25th June 2004 05:06

i had an unopened can of coke sitting on top of my stereo for about 3 years
one day my stereo stopped working
i picked the stereo up to see what the matter was and a ton of coke spilled out of the vents in teh sides

the damn coke had eaten through the can and emptied into my stereo
that was scary
i haven't drunk any since that day

i wonder if coke would have replaced my stereo if i'd complained

Jochen 25th June 2004 06:47

replaced ?
If you live in the US you could sue them and make a living of it :p

Try leaving a copper based coin in a glass of coke overnight, Shiny shiny shiny by the morning, leave it in for a bit longer, melty melty melty

yeah, but seeing as i was the one stupid enough to leave a can of coke on my stereo for years, it is partly (if totally) my fault that it happened and i wouldn't feel right suing
see? that's why i'm a canadian and now an american

CaboWaboAddict 25th June 2004 13:23

Hey you got scruples, we don't allow that here!:D

Mas Tequila!

mysterious_w 25th June 2004 13:50

I once left a tangerine I didn't eat in the sun over summer and it went as hard as a rock.

Me and my mate blue it up with a firecracker then shot it on the road. Ah, blissful immaturity. :D

Coke is acidic...Leave something acidic on something for long enough, and it just might start to deteriorate the object and eat it's way through... ;)

Bile is acidic...Still wanna keep your digestive stomach? :p

Not always true, because I once drank a 2 year old can of Coke, which I thought would be the same and fine to drink, but it turns out it tasted different, and tasted like an Italian soda called Brio. I liked it. :)

ElChevelle 25th June 2004 21:28

So what's the problem?:p

Bile is alkaline, which means it's basic; not acidic.

godoncrack 26th June 2004 03:36

I've got this jug of cranberry juice
been sitting on a shelf for over 4 years
Lid on, sealed tight
has only lost about half its volume so far

CaboWaboAddict 26th June 2004 03:42

I got a 20 year old bottle of Scotch. Does this mean its no good?

beanboy89 26th June 2004 03:43

There is stuff sitting in the back of my refrigator, I don't even know how old it is. :D

whiteflip 26th June 2004 05:22

That funky taste might be some of the aluminum that the acid has eaten through. It adds a nice flavor to it. Thats why I like aluminum cans over plastic bottles for soda. It adds flavor.

Umm...pop cans are all sprayed with a protective coating to prevent the acid from reacting with the aluminum.

cabo --> no that makes it better. ;)

whiteflip 26th June 2004 21:16

well then the special coating adds flavor.

ElChevelle 26th June 2004 21:21

It does actually.

cyu 26th June 2004 21:22
