I think Mr. Jones' idea is best. He always comes up with the best ideas. He's so smart. He reeks of awesomeness.

Excuse me while I wipe my nose...

But really, 48 hrs with a seperate theme for everyone could be really cool. We could pick our dates individually, so we could find time on our calendars, and then not receive the assigned theme until said date so there's no chance of starting ahead of time, or anything. It would be fairly quick, and the individual themes would allow for flexibility of the timeframe.

StillWater 19th July 2004 23:26

It is an interesting idea, but I doubt it would work too well in practice. Probably only a small handful of skins would get completed, and those would be rushed and sub-par when compared to the authors' usual work.

I quite like the idea of everyone receiving a separate theme, and some interesting skins would probably come out of that. However, I'm guessing that a hefty proportion of entrants wouldn't like their theme, or wouldn't be able to come up with a skin idea for it, and would end up not entering anything.

k_rock923 19th July 2004 23:32

It would also be a problem if someone who doesn't hang out around here much or someone who is new wanted to enter. Then Jones wouldn't be able to give them a theme.

LuigiHann 20th July 2004 06:09

I largely prefer either the nostalgia or the song over the 48-hour thing. Mmm... redundant.
(Posting "me too!" like some brain-dead AOL-er...)

Wanna bet :p

I hope something the contest does get organized somehow - I've been away for a while and would love a chance to get back into skinning :)

xenosomething 22nd July 2004 20:12

lets just broaden the theme and get this started.

how about we make a bunch of different categories...and each of us picks two of them and has to merge something from each of them into a skin.

LuigiHann 22nd July 2004 21:14

I'd rather see everyone doing the same theme. This is part of the reason why I didn't like Mr Jones's idea either. I say we start a poll on the existing Nostalgia and Music themes.

k_rock923 22nd July 2004 21:23

I'm getting itchy to start this contest. Music seems to be winning but xenos idea is cool too. I'm cool with whatever. Let's get it going though.

xenosomething 22nd July 2004 21:48

lets get a poll going.

Okay. http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....hreadid=187484 :D I no longer favor one over the other, but I'll vote... I just have to figure out which to vote for. :p

/edit
well it seems there were a few of us who read that last post @ the same time :p

xenosomething 22nd July 2004 23:35

dlink, i think having all of those choices will just complicate things....

i'll vote when a mod comes around and merges the two polls and fixes the choices a bit.:p

LuigiHann 22nd July 2004 23:41

Xeno, maybe next time you should say "let's have somebody send me 1 pizza." If you get two again, you can give one to me. ;)

xenosomething 23rd July 2004 00:04

:p

It's because of not in santiago that this contest is happening in the first place. She's the one that got the discussion going in the first place, and she's the one that will be doing all the work involved in organising it. So instead of everyone and his dog starting their own conflicting poll, wouldn't it have been a better idea if we left it to her to do that stuff? :weird: :igor:

Anyway, if a lot of people show a real interest in participating, and people's interests prove to be split between both the music and the nostalgia themes, then my suggestion is: that we do both. The GUI-O had some 4 events, so why not have 2? Let people enter whichever of the categories they please, and judge each separately. And make the deadline suitably long, to give people the chance to enter both, if they want to.

LuigiHann 23rd July 2004 02:20

Sounds pretty good. And for the record, Dlink and I started our polls at the exact same time. :P I think... Anyway. We're all just passing time while we wait for Not in Santiago to get back. A double contest would work, I agree. That way I could enter whatever I want.

not in santiago 23rd July 2004 20:12

First of all, sorry for taking off just as the ball was rolling, but it couldn't be helped. I'm now here for the long haul, with the exception of the aforementioned mid-August break.

Secondly, thanks for weighing in with your opinions. I did consider running two contests, but I really want to keep this as simple and straightforward as possible. Right now there is a 4-1 vote for a nostalgia contest, so I'm going with that (in the absence of a noticeable majority, I was quite close to pulling contest organizer rank and choosing that anyway).

I'm starting a new thread to announce the contest and state the rules. Further discussions of the contest can be made there. Soooo . . . . can we please lock up this thread as well as the two polls, Sir Jones? Pretty please with cherry brandy on top? :D

dlinkwit27 23rd July 2004 21:49

I really don't give two shits who is "in charge" of the contest. I won't be entering. I won't be judgin (unless it's a public vote). ALl I will do is download the ones I like.

All I know is I made a thread so it could be talked about sepretyl from other threads, then read a post about someone needs to make a poll, so I made a poll. If a mod want's to delete it and let NIS make a poll, more power to you both. I was just trying ot help and move this thing along.
