What do you use to boradcast?

What do you guys use to broadcast? SHOUTcast's Winamp plugin or something like SAM2?

MegaRock 19th July 2004 07:27

I use SAM2 but I keep Winamp and the plug-in on a second system in case SAM2 goes down but I rarely have issues with it.

NoahMD 19th July 2004 07:30

Did you purchase SAM2 and do you use AudioRealm?

MegaRock 19th July 2004 07:40

I purchaased SAM2 a little over a year ago and although it was a bit unstable then it's pretty much rock solid with recent builds and a major upgrade is due out soon.

I don't use Audiorealm for much though as I self-host my streams and website but they do track some statistics and list my station through SAM2 so a free broadcaster membership comes in handy.

DJCassio 19th July 2004 16:13

I use SAM2 also and am currently hosting 1 stream (56k) with Audiorealm and 1 stream (24k) on my own PC. SAM2 is extremely flexible and powerful. The "canned" html and/or php web site that comes with it is a fantastic starter and you can build on it.

NoahMD 19th July 2004 17:18

I'm thinking about investing into SAM2 now. haha, Thanks.

We're currently using sctrans for both the daily mix rotation channel and the live show repeats channel.

In the past we considered Sam2 but with our current format we thought it might be abit overkill as we play hour long continuous mixes with a few station ids and psa's between each mix.

For our live show djs, we've just deployed Spacial Audio's Simplecast for broadcasting. Simplecast sound 90% better in terms of sound quality and much less buggy than the Winamp and Shoutcast dsp combo.

Kymera 19th July 2004 18:34

The SimpleCast program looks very interesting.

However, in the screenshots I don't see any sort of tab for Input like the Shoutcast DSP has. How exactly do you control the sound output. ie, I have music, my own mic, and callers over a VoIP program: how do I switch these or have all of them on at the same time? Does SimpleCast just take whatever is coming from your soundcard?

I bought SAM2 about 3 weeks ago, great software, well worth the price, IMO.

megarock, who do you get your server from?

Simplecast uses the sound card line in or stereo mix source for broadcasting. Whatever you have selected in your sound card recording properties.

Hope this helps.

StationPlaylist vs. Sam2

Has anyone ever used, or still use StationPlaylist Creator & Studio. Which do you prefer.

I am not familiar with Sam2. Can it be used for scheduling as well as automation?

Opinions as to which is better, StationPlaylist or Sam2?

buzz98 22nd July 2004 19:09

dude! sam2 does it all. it has full automation, you can program your sweepers and station id's to play every so many songs.during automation you can even put more enphasis on certain songs so they will be played more like the more most requested songs and such.its truely worth the investment.

BroadandCast 24th July 2004 01:03

Sam2 friggin rawwwwks!

NoahMD 24th July 2004 03:40

My only problem with SAM2 is it's price tag. My station doesn't make any money. Does anyone have free alternatives to the SHOUTcast DSP?

Jay 24th July 2004 03:43

sc_trans and clever shell scripting goes a long way :) At least until there is a SAM2 for nix.

NJK 24th July 2004 08:51

sam2 encoder ( note- not the broadcast program)
stationplaylist
rocksteady plugin
stereo expander plugin
winamp 5 player

that's all

metrocast 26th July 2004 21:31

spaceplay, do you use and have you had problems with stationplaylist and winamp? I've read some stuff that says stationplaylist works best with winamp 2.xx anything higher casues problems.

no problems - just make a playlist and save it as an mp3u playlist ( one of the options in stationplaylist)

i open the playlist in the winamp player and all runs smoothly.

musicnetfm 29th July 2004 21:24

I use OTSDJ, a great peice of software, coupled with the Sam Encoder for mp3pro streaming.

Agreed. I wrote my own for Mac OS X with a combination of Javascript, AppleScript and shell scripting. Handles the main playlist, does requests through a web browser, plays top of the hour IDs and starts/stops scheduled specialty programs. :)
