Trouble with winamp volume

This a little hard to explain but maybe someone here will be able to help me.

I used to use winamp2, and I loved it. I could play my games and music at the same time. I would set winamp's volume and 25% and the games volume at 100%. So the music would be playing in the backround.

I then updated to winamp5, and the volume control no longer works like that.

I can set my game up to 100% and winamp to 25%, but winamp somehow can control the games volume output. So winamp and the game are equal outputs. This I don't like becuase sometimes it makes it hard to hear the game.

I am just wondering if this is a bug, a feature, or is there a way to make it work like winamp2.

System specs? soundcard / windows os / directx version?

Are you using DirectSound Output and not WaveOut Output?
If using WaveOut, then that'll be your problem.

directx9.b / realtect AC'97 audio (onboard sound) / XP pro

well i seem to be unable to change to directsound in plugins->output direct sound isn't there. only wave out

but i found out a way to fix it, went into waveoutput->configure->alt. setting method

If you want to try DirectSound output, run the installer again and be sure 'DirectSound output support' (under 'Extra Audio Output/Effect Support') is checked.

Winamp 5.04?
