closing out

i have been using winamp for quite some time now. this is the first time i have had a problem with it. it was working fine untill i restarted my comp. now whenever i go to play a song it says that winamp has encountered a problem and needs to close. we are sorry for the inconvenience. ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling it but it still does it. can somebody help me here?

installed any third party plug-ins? (simple uninstall and reinstall doesn't delete your setings or plug-ins.)

try this

It's the post below which is the relevant one...

Also pay attention to the last paragraph.

rogerwaters247 9th August 2004 22:48

im not sure what all i need to paste in here from the log of the hijackthis program. let me know so i can get that in here for ya.

DJ Egg 10th August 2004 00:51

Basically, the last paragraph tells you to:
1) Supply system specs (cpu, ram, mobo, windows, graphics, sound, directx)
2) Attach the full HJT log (attachment feature available c/o Post a Reply button, but be sure to save log as .txt because .log files are not an accepted file extension for attachments on these forums)
3) Include DETAILS of the error message
4) Tell us what file formats you are playing (mp3, wav, wma, aac, ogg, etc). 'Song' means nothing to us.
5) Confirm you've tried a CLEAN install of Winamp 5.04 with no 3rd-party plugins or skins

We can't really help without knowing this information...

Ok, I strongly suggest that you install both Adaware6 and Spybot Search & Destroy.

Run Adaware first to get rid of IncrediFind spyware
(be sure to install detection updates before running the scan)

Then install & run SpybotSD after
(also making sure you get the latest detection updates first)

If the following entries still exist after running both scans, use HJT to fix them.

IMPORTANT:
You will need to unzip HijackThis.EXE to a proper folder,
eg. C:\Program Files\HijackThis
It won't work if run from a Temp dir in zipped state.

(PowerSeach toolbar spyware/hijacker)

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {4E7BD74F-2B8D-469E-D4F3-F66DA787AD2D} - (no file)

(IncrediFind browser hijacker)

O2 - BHO: NavErrRedir Class - {4FC95EDD-4796-4966-9049-29649C80111D} - C:\PROGRA~1\INCRED~1\BHO\INCFIN~1.DLL

I'm not too sure about this entry. If you know it's safe & legit, then fair enough:

O2 - BHO: ProxyConn Browser Helper Object - {7D9E713D-0388-4384-BDD8-2A42EB1C4F04} - C:\Program Files\Infoblvd XL\PrxcnBrsrCtrl.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PxClient.exe] "C:\Program Files\Infoblvd XL\PxUi.exe" /Automation

afaik, this is some kind of internet accelerator tool or something ?!
Sounds questionable to me.

Also, your Java installation is broken:

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - (no file)

O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Sun Java Console - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - (no file)

This is also broken (RealPlayer, real.com browser button):

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)

Apart from all that...

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ProfileAMP] C:\Documents and Settings\Jeffrey DeKay\Desktop\profileamp\ProfileAMP7

This is some kind of Winamp add-on/plugin, yes?

Try removing/disabling it.
afaik, there's a newer version available (v8)

And upgrade to Winamp 5.04
A clean install is recommended.

nothings working still. it still crashes and closes out on me. i ran spybot s&d and adaware and norton antivirus professional 2004 and fixed everything thing that came up. nothings on here at all for winamp. completely deleted out of the registry. is there any programs that can take administrative rights from winamp or somehting like that? i know some programs have that problem.

rogerwaters247 15th August 2004 18:02

can someone help me here... i dont want to stop using winamp. its the best media player in my opionion. please reply with any ideas

siebe83 16th August 2004 08:33

Try to be more clear: please confirm you followed all steps lined out by DJ Egg.
Did you follow all instructions and are you still having problems?
Maybe post a new HijackThis log to see anything has left.
Also, you could try to install Winamp 5.04 to a different directory.
(for instance, C:\Program Files\Winamp5 )
